Lol. So you're saying the Apple Lisa should be able to run Mountain Lion? You're logic is so flawed. The processor, RAM, and other hardware components have everything to do with what software it can support. Hence the reason why the original iPhone doesn't run iOS 5.

The logic isn't flawed:
1. I didn't compare devices to something from decades ago, in fact I mentioned that mine is the LATEST version (you must have skipped that part)
In fact, that WAS the point, that it is the latest (current sold).

2. It actually does run the OS and it's a function of the OS not the device.

3. It's Your logic... not You're logic.

Either way, it seems to be a web service rather than something on the device, so anything with a mic and WiFi, should be able to do it.

Sorry about my grammatical error. Didn't catch that before I posted. No need to correct me...

Like I said on the previous page, it's part of Apple's marketing. If they put every single new feature on every device, no one would have a reason to buy the latest device. Guess you don't understand that.

Well it actually is the latest device, and that's the point.

The fact is that if you buy the newest IPT today, you don't get all the functions that the OS offers, you get a cut-down version of the OS.

I take your point that they want you to buy the iPad/iPhone instead, some of us look at the true cost of the device and would like to use it as a tool. Fact is the IPT is a usable tool beyond gaming. To force a business to upgrade everything to get one function is basically opening the door and saying someone else (Android) come in here and exploit this.

I think someone posted that dictation actually works fine on the IPT, just not under Apples cut-down version of the OS. ...maybe now I have a better understanding why people jailbreak.

Apple's marketing plan is actually the main reason Apple almost died. They were brought back from the dead, and yet continue down the same or simular lines.

As said, this is all just because Apple wants to upsell people. It isn't the first time Apple has done such tricks. Another of their stupid moves was to resell the 2nd Gen 8GB iPod Touch along with the significantly updated 32/64 gb 3rd gen models. I lost count how many people I have talked to that are now quite pissed they can't run iOS 5, or OpenGL 2 based applications on what they though was a new device at the time. Also, here is video proof Siri runs on an iPod Touch.

EDIT. Heck, Siri even runs on the lower spec iPhone 3GS! This being the case, there is simply no reason why it wouldn't work on the iPod Touch 4G

That is strange logic. Processors and RAM are a huge thing in determining what a device can do.

Actually this is moot, the device will run siri and most (if not all) the work is done over the web. In fact, we may see much more of this type of design in apps/ OS functions.

Usually it's NOT an issue of what a device can do, but how FAST it will do it.

Things like English to Spanish can be done off the device over the web.

I can see where processor and ram would be an issue with some games, but for most apps it's just a matter of running a bit slower.

Most modern chips are just adding cores anyways. My desktop has 8 cores, helps with running multi apps but the core speed is not much higher than processors of the past.
