It seems some people around here are do nothing more than to tell people to search these days (especially one person on this thread)...way to rack up your post count doing nothing useful for anyone.

You should open it, clean it with the alcohol as mentioned carefully and put a fan on it. Do not turn on for days even after you assume it is completely dry.

Cross your fingers and turn on.

Good luck

Probably b/c there are multiple, multiple threads on things like this. But people like you have no problem racking up post counts posting the exact same thing over and over and over and over........

Wasn't talking to you... Review your posts and nothing useful has come from them either in awhile it seems- I think it is dumb that people can't post their unique situation without everyone getting mad. It is a forum- that's what you do even if it's been asked because not everyone is so keen on how to search and use them. The point is to help people who need it and act like a community. Maybe macrumors needs a "what do I do if I spill something on my laptop" guide. In reality, nearly everything as been asked before so why have a forum to begin with. Now this is a unecassary post. The point is you knew this was something covered but felt the need to put someone else done for screwing their computer- just pass over the post and don't bother reading it like the hundreds I have done daily for a long time even before I joined recently after trollng for years. Nothing personal mustang- I'm not even really talking to you-just a general feeling about forums really.

I kinda wish there was some kind of robot that would read and discard threads involving improper placement of water based liquids in relation to technology.

Humans beings contain up to almost 80% water, so your policy could restrict the amount of posts on here.

If one was so inclined and evil *cough*, they could disassemble said MBP and do the old rubbing alcohol reversal trick on the litmus paper indicators on the logic board. I would only recommend doing this as an absolute last resort, because the likelihood of being accused of fraud is quite high if you bring it in. If you clean up every shred of evidence, including scraping away any trace of corrosion, there is a small chance that you can get an idiot genius to repair it under AppleCare.

What a co-incidence, I actually invented one of these! It worked great, but then I spilt a Margherita in it. I looked online for help on how to fix it, but found nothing ;)

Went to Apple shop, they told me its done for. Contacted insurance, they're going to send me one of the newer laptops (2.53, 4g, very pleased this new release happened this week), I get to keep my old hard drive and the excess increase isn't too bad. Its all turned out rather nicely.

Thanks for the help and responses, and I do apologise for the minor amount of controversy I caused.

All the best

Geese, I want your insurance company. They cover water damage and they cover 'your own fault' water damage. Never thought this sort of thing existed.

Sucks about Apple not replacing but at least insurance will, best of a bad situation perhaps? At least you'll have your data still. There's a good chance that if I had to choose between keeping my hardware or keeping my data (or having my comptuer destroyed vs data) I would want my data almost 100% of the time.

I would not have even thought to contact my insurance company if it was human error (ie dropping the laptop, having it fall off a desk, spills, etc etc) so at least now I will consider it as an option in future.

Sorry to hear the accident. A friend of mine almost ruined his MBP the same way. He was drinking soda while reading the Onion. Good thing he had a silicon keyboard protector on his Macbook that kept the liquid from going through the keyboard.
