all you need for a credit check now is a credit or debit card registered to your home address. They run the checks through the banks

if not you need a passport AND a drivers license

MojoWill - thanks for this - the 12 year old sales assistant said all he needed was a debit/credit card that checked out to be a the address I claimed to live at but I did not believe him! (ageist I know)

- but how does he know I'm the person claiming to live at the address the card is registered to? Don't I still need to take along a utility bill or something? Can you tell it's been awhile since I bought anything on the 'never never'? Think I'll take my driving licence with me just in case!

Last time I checked (friday), went into O2 store, the person trying to help me was very certain that I HAVE to come into store to upgrade :S, but I think I will do it online, because he wouldn't accept those facts Phil quoted when I said them to that guy, honestly they just want me to go the store to create a queue I think.

Nobody knows anything, becouse what 02 told me was the opposite; that I need to upgrade online.

I think the o2 website makes it quite clear upgrades are online only

basically this bit

You'll be able to upgrade online at o2.co.uk, in one or our high street stores or by calling one of our upgrade advisors.

that changed quite recently :D

but I think this maybe for o2 customers who do not have an iPhone. Read the page again. The bit you quote comes after the bit about non iPhone o2 users?????

At least we don't have to visit some annoying salesman trying to sell us insurance.

Hello all

Thought I'd update the forum with where I am:

I went to one of my local O2 stores (there are a few near to me) yesterday and got my credit check done ready for the launch. The girl who served me said that both models would be available and that by getting the credit check done I would be in and out fairly quickly. I was given a copy of a paper form she filled in, which is titled at the top with "iPHONE 3G PRE-ORDER" with sections for my name, contact number, order number, staff member and finally a box with "8GB / 16GB" in it (in which she circled the 16GB). I am not sure if this is actually a pre-order, but seeing as it says so on the tin I am believing that for the time being! it also states "we will contact you to confirm stock availability".

Getting rather excited now and I am glad I called and found out I could get this bit out of the way.

Would be interested to hear from any others with a similar "pre-order" confirmation form.

Cheers!

Is this correct? I've just been to my (large) local o2 store and all they will do is run my debit card details through credit check, as I'm good to go they said see you next Friday and off I toddled!

they check that the card is valid and not blocked it does not prove your identity some places ask you to enter your pin number to prove your identity but it depends, the idea is that it is the card owners responsoibilty to report a card los t or stolen so it is their fault if someone gets a contrac tin their name
