T-mobile sucks. I am trying them for 30 days to see if I want to switch from AT&T and thats a NO so far. As soon as I enter any building LTE is gone. At work LTE is gone, at the gym LTE is gone. This is in NYC. Tomorrow I'm traveling to MA and will see how that goes but so far it is not worth it for me. The unlimited feels great but service sucks so I can't really use it.

It's awful in MA, or at least the Boston area. Run. Run while you can!

T-Mobile's LTE is mainly band 4 AWS 1700/2100. AT&T's LTE is mainly band 17 850. Band 4 works well with line of sight to the base stations and ok in other scenarios. It's also good to handle lots of traffic and usage and it's speed is TOP (for now). Band 17 works well (period).

FCC is currently auctioning off blocks in band 4 with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and many others in the auction. It's an excellent supplement to band 17. Oh and it's worth $38B so far...

I've heard horror stories about T-Mobile and the ETF fees. On top of that T-Mobile wanted me to pay about $300 on the iPhone 6 vs. Verizon $0 because I was already a customer.

The only horror stories come from those who are too lazy to read the TOS.

T-MOBILE has a history of great customer service and fairness. I use them along with AT&T and I'm very happy.

Both Jump and Next are great interest free fair priced services. Now that a vast amount of cities have T-MOBILEs fast reliable LTE they're one of the best carriers in the market.

it's always been spotty on long island.... i just feel tMobile service has always been like swiss cheese on long island....

i've used at&t since 05ish, and while i've had some pretty horrible experiences caused by mistakes on there part, they were always able to fix the issue, and even credit my account for my problems.

i called up earlier this year to cancel an extra line i no longer needed on the plan, and the woman was able to actually lower my bill to the point i was able to upgrade with next, get a 128gb phone on the 18 month program, and it's still 10 a month cheaper.... also sent me an un-needed wifi tower because there're "coverage issues in my area" which actually may come in handy if i wind up moving to somewhere with no cell phone reception.... i also found a way to save an extra $5 by giving up my unlimited internet i never even touch 5gb's of

there was a point where at&t seemed liked there service was slipping, back when i was using a 4s and early days of my 5, but once LTE kicked in for the majority of LI, I haven't really had any complaints...

Did they give you a deal on a new phone?

Nah, I brought my unlocked iPhone 5 over.

They did however, try to get me one of those "free" tablet deals but I said I would only be interested in an iPad, which wasn't offered.

I'm looking at getting an iPhone 6 after the new year but still deciding on that.

Its awesome to have the truly unlimited data option which i have the grandfathered option of 20 vs $30. I consistently use around 15 gigs a month, i have seen guys on howardforums bragging about how they use 150 gigs a month on their tmobile phones through tethering. I think when tmobile subscribers base grows to higher levels they will probably start throttling just like ATT does. Guys who use 100 gb a month will ruin it for the masses

I've been with them for a day and I apparently used nearly 5GB from YouTube, Netflix, and Speedtest.

Before AT&T instituted throttling, I was averaging 20GB monthly. I'm not sure how anyone can do 100+ gigs per month, that's home ISP data usage!

----------

What are users doing to use 50GB of data in a month. On my best month, I might use 7-8GB and have never had AT&T throttle me, not even a warning. Most months are a little under 5 and unlimited works perfectly for me. Besides, T-Mo has poor coverage where I work and live even thouigh they promised "excellent".

I don't know, normal stuff like streaming?

----------

Hey. Congrats. I just came back to T-Mobile from a brief week with verizon. I used almost a gig of data on verizon and realized that only tmobile is the most affordable for people who actually use these devices as they are intended to be used on the Internet. I barely streamed anything and went right back to verizon and cancelled my service that they were charging me almost 4 times the amount that Tmo does. The big two better start offering better deals or they won't have anyone else to gouge.

Thanks!

The idea of having more carriers is so they can actually compete with one another and give their customers the best service. Just look what happened once T-Mobile managed to step up their game and how that shook things up for AT&T and Verizon.

Moreover, it's forcing Sprint to lower their prices and offer unlimited everything for $50 per month! Of course, it would be better if Sprint had a better network.....

How's the service compared to ATT?

In my area it feels the same, probably slightly better speed with the data. I won't be able to do any road testing until next week because I'm off this week for Thanksgiving.

Of course, compared to AT&T, T-Mobile is far superior because of the no throttling on unlimited data.

No.. I am not a child, and I could easily get by under 100 minutes. Most communication is text/email these days.

I easily pull 30-70mbps down with T-mobile in southern NH and Boston area.

Whent he connection is there its fine. I constantly hopped over to edge, especially when inside. I'd much rather have consistency than a bunch of black holes with super fast speeds where I can get them.

If the person I quoted is having troubles in the NYC area, I am guessing he will be just as displeased with Boston Metro.

If you like your connectivity, more power to you. I would love to love TMO. I really, truly would.

VoIP call quality is unreliable and can't be used to conduct business.

The brilliant thing about tmo prepaid is that if you run out of min. Use the app to pay 10 bucks for 100 more min. They credit it you the difference at the end of the month. After seeing the prices for verizon and at&t, you'd have to add 30 extra dollars to match their prices. And that's like 400 minutes. Personally I'm going to use FaceTime audio more since most of my friends and family have iPhones.

I have Comcast at home. I commute 2 hours each way four times a week and stream live sports, ESPN all the time. Also watch Fx live on my way home daily.
Wow, I guess you would use that much data doing that. You are certainly out of the norm, I don't have that kind of time away from home to stream much of anything on my phone...

T-Mobile is awesome...been with them since they started the uncarrier plans and service ( both RF and CS ) is great in Texas and Colorado.

I go thru about 20 GBs monthly mostly because of video streaming. Also, loving their free 1.2 GB data plan for almost 8 months now with no data usage on iTunes Radio, sound hound, iheart, and saavn...and a few more.

If you have their postpaid plan, the smart watch wearable plan is $5 monthly which includes unlimited talk, texts and 500 MB data. People have been using this as a voice line in their phones but I don't agree with that idea..

Finally, with direct overseas calling to many ..many countries at no extra charge is another perk I'm really happy with!

i live in DC & i have 4G/LTE every where i go, no throttled internet or any of that stuff at&t does, i have unlimited everything & my bill is $77 each month including $8 insurance & my discount is 12%, i will say in a certain part of north carolina my phone doesnt have service at all, i understand tmobile is expanding their network so some areas may be crappy than others
