Man, there are some fast typists here. I got net 80 WPM on the 1-minute Finland test with 98% accuracy, but I had to take it twice because I couldn't read the freaking font the first time and the punctuation errors killed me. Thank goodness that test allows deleting, though.
I type a little faster in bursts when it's my own words, and I can maintain probably 50-60 WPM for a while before things start to cramp. Not that I can usually think up 50-60 WPM for more than a couple minutes, but in theory, anyway.
Funny, I had a teacher in high school (she was a professional novelist) who could type so fast it was scary--sounded like somebody just pounding the keys as fast as possible. Never timed her, but it was easily 120 WPM, if not higher.
And I'm glad somebody else remembers good ol' Mavis Beacon--I spent time with her back on an Apple //c when I was in 4th grade, but I didn't really learn to touch type until I forced myself to some time after I started college. At that point, my speed went up quite a bit.
