So I've always done the smaller sized iPhone, my wife had always done the max size. With the 15 I thought I was prepared to go Max after al the years seeing my wife, big one..... I have big hands, but just can't hack the reach I'm afraid.
What's the deal with returning the phone to apple does anyone know or done this already? Bought of finance in the UK?

I would honestly give it a little while and get a slimmer case. You get used to the size.

I've gone for an extreme case (Pitaka case) which I always do on my previous phone. Not sure, I was hoping I'd get used to it pretty quickly but one handed usage is quite a strain. Not sure.

I have the 6 Plus, the 6s Plus and the 11 Pro Max. Not as large as the 15PM, but larger than the average phone. I also have average sized hands.

But I use two hands. And not just with larger phones, all my smaller phones too.

Lots of people, apparently you included, one hand an over ~$1000 device. To me, that's just asking for trouble. There are reasons, sure, I get it. But for the price of the phone I'm way more comfortable using two hands.

The pro max is mostly a two hand phone I can somewhat use one hand with my 15 pro max but I’m also caseless

Maybe the OP should just get the 15 Pro? I know Max has better battery life but form factor is most important
I'm not sure I can hack the two handed usage, and yes the pain too the thread was to see if anyone has 'downgraded' to the pro model with a return.

This is a natural response.
My first "plus" phone was the original Samsung Note, then I bought the iPhone 7 Plus, another one I loved but didn't feel secure with the size so I downgraded. Ever since I got the iPhone 12 Pro Max, I've finally learned to adapt to the size. Ever since I've been a committed Max user, from 12 Pro Max, to 14 Pro Max and now 15 Pro Max.

This is the reason I went back to 4.7" phones. Too many times, I'm at the grocery and using two hands to operate the phone just isn't feasible.

Hey OP, just want to chime in here and say it’s OK if you don’t vibe with the Pro Max. I got a 14 Pro Max last year and it was my first Max phone. Long story short, I missed out on the 2 week return window so I kept the phone hoping I would eventually “get used to it”. I never did. I told myself I’ll wait until the 15 comes out and see if I want to switch. Well, I couldn’t wait til the preorder day because I knew I wanted a 15 Pro. I got my 15 Pro last Friday and I’ve really been enjoying it!

I’ve gone back and forth with the 14PM (haven’t returned it yet) and my God it just feels HUGE and HEAVY compared to the 15!

All that to say, just exchange for the regular pro if you’re not feeling it. There’s no shame in it!!

I guess it just comes down to each person. Lifestyle, occupation, etc. For me, I don't get out much and when I do it's usually for a specific purpose. I have a car, and public transportation in my part of the city isn't convenient. I work from home and outside of that, I don't have a lot of requirements on my time (and very few that require leaving the house). There are very rarely, if any, social interactions with anyone outside my wife and kids. I believe the last time I was on vacation was probably 1997, and I stayed at home the entire week (my wife had to work).

My first phone was in 1999. Reflexively I held it in my left hand and used my right hand to press buttons. Every phone/tablet after that has been the same way. When phones stopped being subsidized and the real cost became evident I doubled down on using two hands.

To cite your example though, I don't like being jostled. Even with two hands it's easy to drop the phone when people are bumping in to you. So, if it's busy in whatever aisle I'm in, I will put myself in an area that is the least crowded and use both hands.

It was pretty much beaten in to me as a kid that it was inconsiderate to be in other people's way (wherever I may be), so I'll find some place where I am out of the way before looking at my phone.

I was a little scared to click into this thread 🤣

As someone who prefers small phones, I was worried about this too. And it took some getting used to, but after a few weeks, I almost never imagine going back. There’s too many benefits with the bigger devices, and I’d rather have those benefits than the smaller size.

Two handing your phone at all times seems like such an inconvenience. I'd say at least 40% the time I'm using my phone, I'm also doing stuff with my other hand — cooking, rummaging through the fridge, holding a bag or keys, etc. I'm not knocking you for your usage, you do whatever works for you, but I don't think I could live that way.

And I'm not knocking anyone using it one-handed. There are reasons, some of which you just gave. I get that. For me though, it just feels weird. I'm not one of those people who can use my thumb to tap on a screen and while I am right handed, I generally hold my phone in my left hand so using it one handed for me would be using the off-hand. But, It'd feel even weirder using my right hand for some strange reason.

And because I am so uncoordinated at it, there is a much greater chance I will drop my phone. A week and a half ago I was trying to review a text while walking behind my shopping cart and talking to my son. I was using one hand and I felt the phone start to slip. Little voice in my head screamed at me that I was going to drop the phone if I kept it up. So I pulled out of the way, stopped and used both hands.

90% of the time when I am looking at my phone, I am sitting at my desk at home. So, it's really not a big issue for me.

If you bought direct from Apple you have a 14 days no questions asked return policy. When I try their products I always go direct to have this insurance!

Just return the phone to the store within return period. Returning it will cancel financing and paid installment by their system and related payment method system. That is from my past experience.

T-Mobile also has a 14 day return period. Where Apple has it over T-Mobile though is T-Mobile will charge you a restocking fee ($45). Also, a lot of T-Mob customers don't realize that 14 days does not mean 14 business days, so some have gone to return, only to find out they missed the return window.

Totally fair. I'm also a righty who mostly uses my phone left-handed (for whatever reason, my front right pocket is the wallet and keys pocket, so my phone has to go in the front left, and that's forced me to learn to use it left-handed). I do sometimes use my phone with both hands if it's something more involved (or I just want to do it faster) but one-handed is the way to go for me. I do only have the regular phone, not a Max/Plus, so that also helps too.

I love the Pro Max sized phones and can go no smaller. My daughter has the 14 and we switched phones for 30 minutes. She said the Pro Max was too big and heavy where as I said the 6.1 size was too small and light. I use my phones with 2 hands and haven't had any issues with using my phone one handed for a little bit.

As long as you purchased from Apple, you have 14 days to return your iPhone and they will cancel out your loan, and hopefully you can find a 15 pro that you like.
