Yes, that is if you are buying the upgrade and doing it yourself. However, you can go to the Apple Store and let them do it, that way its full-proof.

it is supposedly better this way but i didnt want to pay $300 for 4Gb of ram from apple.

i bought mine from crucial for less than half that and i have had zero problems with it. i have the aluminum 2.4.

Well, for new Al MacBooks the price is on par with resellers ($150 Apple vs $140 NewEgg + S&P).

So I would go with Apple.

OWC is $95.

$140 is a bit steep for 4gb of DDR3 (and we're not talking no-name). And really steep for 4GB where you dont get to keep the 2gb that was in there originally.

I got my 4GB for less than $65 (ebay + live.com rebate).

Too bad the live.com has been stuck at 8% for the past week+ :( I was actually planning to buy a 320gb 7200rpm Seagate HDD from there and get 25-30% back, so I'm waiting and hoping it bounces back.

I've almost bitten on getting a 500gb HDD but I am holding off until I absolutely need the space. Perhaps by that time 750gb or 1tb drives will be available for sub $200.

More than likely you'll be looking for SSDs by that point.

Instead of getting a larger drive in mine, I am opting for a 500gb in an external enclosure, as it is just for video and photos-so 500gb over FW800 is fine.

Just like the flexibility it allows, without the hit on battery life. I expect it would be a similar hit to when I took my MB from 160 to 320, it still had nice life but unless I dropped the brightness, there was an easily seen hit (30-45 minutes at least, though its been so long i cant remember specifics)

Battery Life Affected By HD Upgrade?

Hmmm...just noticed after upgrading my HD to the Seagate 320gig 7200rpm that my battery life decreased. :(

Sorry but this the first time I upgraded a laptop's HD.

Is this a norm?
