The tragedy did not directly affect Americans, but I would not be surprised to hear that he has family or ancestors from the area. Maybe the timing of his comments are offensive to others, maybe they were not the best way to go about making them, maybe he really is an insenstitive prick. But, I have tried hard to focus on other things than tragedies in order to help myself stay positive. For me, it has been trying to dive harder into school, panicking when I watch my Cards play (fearing for the worst). If I didn't, I'd probably quickly become a moribund individual.
I don't know if I would call the person moribund or just a useless piece of crap. On the other hand, I didn't see that in his post. Perhaps I read too much into it (and I wish he would comment), but I saw a really bad attempt at morbid humor. I could also see the arguement that "well, the game was the worst part of my weekend, so I really feel lucky" could be made. Do I think that either of these is what he was intending? I don't know. I hope that it was, but if not I won't disagree with your commentary.aquajet said:The way I see it, it's fine to engage in activities to keep one mentally and physically healthy. Indulging in negativity can certainly damage one without balancing it out with something positive every now and then. But let's be honest here, someone who places a football game in a higher regard than such a tragedy has already become the moribund individual.

But a lot of friends in my city (in Canada) have had family friends pass away or are missing. It's a horrible disaster. We're doing everything we can to bring awareness to the community at large. My dad's been in the local and national news trying to promote the relief effort and there are avenues for donating set up. There's been a lot of action taken, donations are being made and many charities are getting work done. Will it be enough? Probably not, not with an estimated 40,000+ dead and estimated 4 million homeless, roads destroyed and winter's coming...But every dollar counts, and every prayer is needed.
