I'm an iphone newbie and before I get blasted with, "you should search the forums first", let me say I entered ' 3.0 or 3.1 ' in the search field and it came back with, "no results" !!! So whatever.

Just got a 32GB 3GS (3.0) and plugged it in to my Macbook Pro 13". It has the 3.1 update ready to go, but should I ... 1) don't update and keep it with 3.0 2) update to 3.1 now 3) wait to update later.

    Thanks

If you took a look at the forums, a lot of people are having issues after upgrading to 3.1, so I would take that as a sign to stay at 3.0 until the bugs and other stuff are fixed. For example, there are threads were people reported low battery life after upgrading to 3.1

From what I've seen, 3.1 works great. I've been using it myself and it's been working quite nicely. If you've done any hacks to your iPhone though, it might not be worth it, as most of them are currently out of date. Otherwise, go for it. No problems here.

It's guaranteed that your smart playlists will not work properly anymore - from having wrong songs in them to not being organized in the same order as they are shown in iTunes (usually random). The trade-off is you will be able to reorganize apps in iTunes.

Worst case scenario it introduces the bug where usage and standby time goes up together and your phone dies overnight randomly. The 3GS's don't seem to be randomly locking up at least.

Is app organization in iTunes worth the risk to you? There's no going back from 3.1.

I too am holding from upgrading to 3.1. I've read too many reports of issues with the upgrade.
