What in the OP's account of his situation makes you say he should sell his iPad for a desktop computer with no monitor? He already said he has a desktop. Odd advice. I could see him going with an Air instead.

There s an iPad Mini. continuing on you lines of reasoning, why didn't you mention the car?

An iPad is very useful for basic work. If it can replace one's laptop thats great. I have both since my work requires a powerful resource laden computer. An iPad can't even begin to perform the work I do, and shouldn't be expected to.

You did the exact same thing. LOL

You're being purposelessly misleading as you know the iPad can do more than that.

It can play mobile games and you can use it for Pages/Keynotes/Numbers if you have a bluetooth keyboard, and for DJing if you have the right apps.

Am I missing anything? I'm not being "purposelessly misleading" as I don't know every use for an iPad.

The usefulness of an iPad is dependent on what you need.

And no need to cherrypick, if you quoted the whole line, it states: "Well an iPad is no replacement for a laptop, but if the iPad 4 works for you, then keep it."
IF the iPad works for you keep it, if it doesn't get a laptop.

And anyway, at least I didn't contradict myself in the same post  :p

iiim using it in ireland to do some consulting work for hasbro toy company. i have been using the ipad for pages, numbers, keynote, and some flowcharting and it has been truly awesome to work with.

id like to get the ipad 5 but i dont think i can wait for it and this ipad does suit my needs for portable use. like i said, i have a very nice desktop that i build and made a hackintosh for my heavier needs. loving the ipad so far. i've been using the bluetooth keybaord when writing a lot and its working awesome. much better than my laptop since i can easily throw this in my string strapped backpack.

That's why I corrected my post two seconds later: "Correction. I misread your advice as Mac Mini and thought it was strange. I forgot all about the iPad mini. That actually makes a lot of sense. The iPad mini seems like a good stopgap for people waiting for an iPad 5." But thanks anyway for the snark.

well if i decided to keep the iPad i wouldn't sell it when the new one comes out. but unless the new one is going to come out by the end of june id rather just keep this one. does anyone have any evidence that it will come out by the end of june? i personally hope it doesn't come out until holiday season in which case im totally fine keeping this iPad 4. after all it is the 128gb that just came out in march. maybe since the iPad 5 is supposed to be a redesign it will take a bit longer to come out that the previous generation. if so i could skip that update and catch the next perhaps. as i stated before, typically, i steer clear from revision 1's.

I think you should return it as well. When has there ever been a significant issue with a new gen Apple product?

Every one. Typically Apple denies the existence of the problem, people complain about the issue, others complain about the complainers, then after a while, Apple fixes the issue...usually without ever admitting that a problem existed.
