Let me throw a wrench into this. I have a b/g/n router. I have a 3Gs and and 3G iphone. both are running 3.0 os. I have all the issues with wifi on my 3Gs but the 3G connects just fine with no issues. I tried to exchange my 3Gs at apple but no dice. So IDK. Kinda pissed. I rely on that wifi..

Iphone 3Gs

What i notice with my Iphone 3GS is that when i am within 15 feet of the router, that i lose the wifi connection. It will ask me for the router password, and still will not be able to connect.

Any other wifi enabled device I have is able to see and connect to the router at any location, but the Iphone ALWAYS loses its connection within 15 feet, and then reconnects when i walk away outside the 15 foot radius.

Its as if the signal from the router is too strong or weak within that 15 foot radius. the further i get from the router, as long as i'm within 65 feet, and no closer than 15.

Me too

Seems to me that when I don't broadcast the SSID, my iPhone forgets the security association. Just started happening... since I started broadcasting, I haven't lost the SA.

Me too with N router

I'm also having this problem and had been looking for a thread or solution. Hard to describe, hard to google for it.

I just bought a new router, a D-Link DIR-825. It worked fine at first, but I kept changing the config. Something I changed made the iPhone periodically lose the WiFi connection, complaining about "incorrect wifi password". Its been driving me nuts. I was about to return the router and buy a different one.

This suggestion made sense because it worked when I first bought it, and I flipped the router from G only to G & N.

However, after just a few minutes I've been able to get it to fail twice. So yet again, this does NOT fix the problem I'm experiencing. ARGH!

Apple really should fix this. Sounds like a very pervasive problem. On the D-Link forums folks are complaining about it with the DIR-615, DIR-655 and DIR-825 routers. All N routers.

I've also tried every permutation available of WPA vs WPA2 and cipher, AES vs TKIP. I don't know what else to try.

This is driving me nuts. I've been thinking about returning the D-Link DIR-825 and replace it with a Linksys WRT610N, however this thread makes it sound like this problem occurs with many routers including Linksys.

Any other ideas of things to try?

same problem

perhaps it's a dhcp issue where the iPhone does not like a non-static IP ?

I have found some security options that make my iPhone 3G (3.1.2) maintain its connection to a DLink DIR-825 (2.02NA).

If I turn off security, or set security to WEP it appears to work consistently. I haven't seen a failure with either security mode.

Bottom line is there are too many people suddenly having Wifi issues, me included. It's not my wifi, it's not changes to the phone (by me), since I haven't done any.

I can no longer connect to my wifi at home or work and it's apples fault. whether it is some app update or issues with 3.0, we deserve an explination from Apple and some indication that they are working on it. period.

Why should we JERK AROUND finding out we need to stand facing north with our left foot off the ground on Mondays, but our right foot on Wednesdays to get it to work??!! FIX THE FRIGGING THING!:(

AMEN! I'm having the same problems as everyone else. Nothing has changed with any of my equipment or settings and my iPhone just dropped off the network for no reason and I can't get it back. Have tried router/modem company (Comcast), AT&T (carrier) and Apple and everyone points the finger at the other. Nobody can fix the problem, Apple refuses to even discuss it, and my cell bill is going higher and higher without my home wifi. It has GOT to be Apple! It's the only place/thing we ALL use! I am SO tired of trying all these fixes when it's obvious it's not US, it's THEM who should be fixing it. Rant OVER - but still a very unhappy iPhone user :(

Which iPhone do you have? What version of iOS installed? What's the make and model of your router. And lastly what's your wi-fi network name and is it unsecured?

This worked for me. Go to settings > wifi > enter your wireless password. Go back to your main menu in settings. Then select wifi > YOUR NETWORK > click on the little blue arrow on the right of your network then select forget this network. Then go back to the main menu in settings and select wifi > other > manually enter your router name and password then choose WPA as the security setting.
