I wouldn't give up the UDP until you can save a lot of $$ on your plan. If you will be paying the same, don't do it.

We had UDP on VZW for years and just bought our iPhones full price to keep it. Eventually the plan discounts for the new plans for bringing your own devices dropped enough that we were able to get a 10GB plan for $60/month less than we were paying for our 2 UDP lines. That $60/month will buy me 1 iPhone a year, so it was kind of a no brainer.

We haven't even come close to the cap even with VZW's non rolling data. But I did take a look at our data usage very closely before picking a service level. Since I am saving so much money a month, I do not miss our UDP plan at all.

Stay with UDP. Don't listen to the rumors.
I spoke to an ATT rep (keeping in mind that reps have been known to give misinformation) last night and she told me that as long as you have a two year contract, you will always be able to keep renewing a two year contract through ATT. Meaning they might make it very hard to get subsidized phones (ex: only using att to renew 2 year contracts), but we will stay "grandfathered in" to being eligible for subsidized phones every two years.

My contract plan currently has no monthly device access charge. The fine print on the AT&T website seems to indicate that I will lose that perk if I upgrade my phone. I can't figure out if that would apply if I renew my contract and keep everything the same, or if I change my contract (don't want), or...?

That monthly savings is the only thing keeping my contract plan cheaper than a Mobile Share plan.

This is what I also heard. I don't know if it is true or false. If they change subsudy rules-> they change the terms of contract-> I open dispute--> switch. Contract is contract. That's why I don't understand some people argue when they cannot move their upgrade to earlier time.

Which plan are you on? IF you have family talk (not mobile share), you will not have not have to pay the monthly access charge. where is fine print?

I have an old FamilyTalk Nation plan. (450 shared minutes for $50)

When I use the "compare monthly plan costs" tool on AT&T website, I get a little chart comparing my current plan cost vs. new Mobile Share. At the bottom is this:

The last bit being, "†If you upgrade a smartphone to a 2-year wireless contract, you will no longer be eligible for a monthly discount. To continue to receive a discount, upgrade with AT&T NextSM, bring your own smartphone or pay full price for a new smartphone."

I just don't understand if this means renewing my contract with a new phone will mean I'll start to incur that monthly access fee or not.

check to see where that little cross is pointing to.. that means of you change to mobile share and do a 2 year subsidized contract, you will have to pay more $$$.. but if you remain with the current contract you are on.. you do not have to pay more that what you have!

Ok, awesome. I'll stick with my contract for as long as they allow it, and try to get my phone through AT&T.

Thank you!

I have 2 lines with unlimited data and there is no way that I would ever give them up - willingly.

I've read that you can sell these plans online, but I don't know how. My understanding is that a person would lose their number and have to get another one.

Ok, I'm now seeing this when I look at phone upgrade options: "When upgrading a smartphone to a new 2-year wireless service contract you're no longer eligible for the Mobile Share Value(R) smartphone device access charge discount of $15/mo. on plans lower than 10GB, or $25/mo. on 10GB or higher plans. To receive this monthly discount, upgrade with AT&T NextSM,1 or pay full price for your new smartphone."

So if I get a new phone, I sign a new contract, thus losing the device access discount, even if I stick with the existing plan?
