I've been doing this for years with Brave Browser. Not a single ad as well.

Or just get a Safari extension like Vinegar, just got it yesterday because my Argentinian payment didn't work anymore, so now they're not getting anymore money from me, but developers of such extensions will muahaha

I did exactly the same and for exactly the same reason.

And also loaded an extension for Reddit and Twitter. Without the ads a much better experience in the browser than in the app.

There's a much easier way to do this using the app..... (for folks in the U.S. that have PIP)

-play your video
-swipe up to launch PIP
-swipe down on the left side of your Home Screen to bring up notification center
-That will pause the video... just press play on the video card in notification center
-lock your phone and you're all set.. audio will keep playing with phone locked.

lol so easy.

There's a much easier way than going through all those steps. Just open YouTube in Safari, open video, click PIP. Once PIP is activated, you can minimize Safari, and video keeps playing.

That does work if you open YouTube in Safari instead of the app. I don't have PIP in the YT app, but I do in Safari.

Well first off, there are no labels for who is and who isn't outside or inside the US. Second, I can see the PIP icon in your video.😉🤭😏🙄

Maybe it's the ad blockers I use. Could be the Vinegar extension I use for YouTube on Safari. Maybe just something YouTube doesn't allow outside the US.

When I get a minute, I'll turn off my ad blockers and Vinegar and see if it makes a difference...😊

OK, I disabled Vinegar...and it was indeed the reason I can do YT PIP in Safari. The PIP button doesn't show when Vinegar is disabled....and I get annoying ads again. I bet if you installed the Vinegar extension for Safari, you would also get PIP in YT. Worth a shot. It's only a $1.99 USD one time payment, and it is a priceless App/Extension.😊

Hilarious. And yet you still pay for it.

Bugs abound everywhere: our phones, computers, cars, etc. I just hope they fix this one. It's a niche case, but at least all of the features are available for other videos.

Brave. Works great. Pip perfect. Will use brave for youtube going forward. The playlist feature is realy awesome

Thank you for sharing this to the globe. Now YouTube will patch it because it became public knowledge, and those of us using it for a while will now need to find another way around.

Yes, seriously, i have been using this since i canceled my subcription a way back. Now, Apple and Google wil patch this.
