Keyboard covers make Air's run too hot.

He's right. Hot air vents through the back and through the spaces between the keys.

By what mystic sorcery does air travel through the nonporous keyboard backing?

Yup....never understood why people believe in this Apple urban legend. You think that if keyboard skins are an issue w/ heat dissipation, why do the Apple stores carry them as well?

Also, I do not see in the warranty fine print(which i have read), or user guide, that states that keyboard skins cannot be used.

And, speaking of warranties, USE THEM. That is what they are there for. Apple's warranty service is top notch. All I can say is that if they were willing to replace my white headphones b/c I pulled on them too much, AND also swap out my iPhone just in case, wouldn't they be willing to replace your Air if it overheats:cool:

On my MBA 13", I use the fabulous Moshi cover. My air does not get anymore hot than without it. Also, it really doesn't interfere with typing. If you spill something on your keyboard, there's a good chance you've done some permanent damage. This cover really helps prevent that. Definitely worth $23. And, because I also use the CaseCrown case which keeps the cover a tad farther from the keyboard, I don't get anything on my screen.:)

I have been a big fan of the Moshi skins for many years on my Macbooks and Macbook Pros. Just like clyde2801 said, the Moshi's are thinner and more responsive then cheaper generic ones. What do I mean by responsiveness? Basically, its the ability of the skin to be able to "bounce" back quickly once you have pressed down and let go. For me, its really annoying to have that stuck key feeling when I am touch typing.

With my current 11" Air, I finally found a skin that IMO is better then Moshi's. The company is called Rearth. Given the 2 weeks that I have being using this thing, I give them high marks for the following:

- It is not too expensive. About $13
- Super thin. Even thinner then the Moshi
- Is engineered to be very responsive with the tops of their keys being angled
- Has small, gutter-like holes on the side for venting of heat
- Has both white and black outline colored skins that allow for the backlit keyboard lighting to show through

Check them out here.

does it leave keyboard imprints on the screen?

I snagged one of the Moshi covers and like it . It definitely feels a lot better than the typical silicone. Also seems to show the keys a lot better since it's super thin.

No imprints on the screen either. I think you're more likely to get imprints from a silicone based cover since it's more "sticky" than you will a plastic based like the Moshi.

I've always used keyboard protectors and the Moshi is definitely a great choice. The one inconvenience I find using it on the MBA is that it muffles the sound output, so I have to remove it every time I want to watch a video I come across on a website...

It's only a slight difference :p I actually think it makes the sound better since it's not as high pitched.

i have a $5 key protector from amazon on my mbp. it doesn't leave any 'screen keys' when i close and open the lid. as far as I'm concerned it works great. i feel like the thickness of the keyboard guard would be an issue with the air

Hmm. I was wondering to protect the screen, what about the razer kabuto? Or is the radtech screensaver cloth better?

What do you guys think?

I bought a "5 dollar ebay cover". It sucked so much. Keys were harder to press and it really obscured the keys. I then decided to just spend the money on the moshi, and it is so much better. They keyboard is still better without anything, but I really want to have it protected.

The heat vent is in the back near the hinge. :p Sometimes I wonder about us debating stuff like this. :) Step 1: Turn on a game. Step 2: Wait for fan. Step 3: Put hand over keyboard. Do you feel air? :p Put hand near hinge. Do you feel air?
