Keyboard suddenly stops working for 5 minutes

My native keyboard (built into the laptop) will suddenly stop responding to any input for about 5 minutes. It will then start responding just as randomly as it stopped. I cannot identify any correlation with any activity I am doing.

Anybody run into this problem and/or have a solution?

My system: MacbookPro early 2013, running 10.11.2.

Have you tried shaking the thing, or giving it a sharp whack?

The internal keyboard uses part of the USB bus. Do you have any external USB devices attached?
Could be storage, could be a mouse or something else like an external hub?

Does the keyboard die completely - Does the Caps Lock key light when you press that?
