Expect it to be ARM-based as it's a great way to test the market. If you want a real Intel MBA then grab one now.

Certainly not going to happen, not when Apple committed to putting Intel in the $4,999 iMac Pro.

but less enthusiastic about HomePod given "mediocre" demand so far.
Really, i haven't read these reports, i thought it was selling well.

I hope the sales are mediocre then Apple might give us some presets or graphic equaliser settings to improve the sound quality. Also they might give it more functionality and also improve Siri.

The MacBook Air currently is the most affordable MacBook, so I don’t quite get it. Yet fore sure it completely outdated. So maybe I can finally update my late 2010 which is running out of macOS support.

MacBook Air serves as a gateway into the Mac ecosystem.

Right now, it’s not competitive enough in specs when you compare it to ultrabooks. Apple has chosen to pull the price lever.

How can technologies like Thunderbolt 3 push forward if Apple keeps selling products with obsolete technology? And a 900p non-IPS display in 2018?

Just lower the price of the Retina MacBook (they’re on sale all the time, anyway), add a second USB-C port, and be done with it. People buy the Air only for it’s affordability, anyway. And while they’re at it, update the Mac mini as well.

I just got two of them 3 months ago. MagSafe was a big selling point. I want these to last a while, and MagSafe will help with that. Having traditional USB ports is also nice.

OMG this lineup is so confusing that Apple got confused itself.
Current MacBook => Air
Current MBPro => MacBook
Redo the MBPro with nominal ports
Stop all the flimsey keyboards
Move Cook out of this, as "PostPC" hailers shouldn't be in this industry.
(Hire M. Dell if necessary)
Replace Phill the Shill => Gill
(Amelio, that is)

The MacBook Air, even with its 2015 CPU, is faster than the Retina MacBook. The MacBook doesn't have a fan, so it has to throttle itself to avoid overheating while the Air can just turn on its fan and keep chugging along.

Since Steve passed the MacBook range has become increasingly confused and lacking any clear strategy.

Their entire product line has. iPhones, iPads... it’s all a big mess. There’s Apple with Steve Jobs, after Steve Jobs, with Steve Jobs and now without him again. It’s no coincidence that both of those times without him they’re just a complete mess.

With the 2017 iPad 9.7, Apple essentially did a spec bump to the original iPad Air case and dropped the price by $170. And the device seems to have been well-received considering iPad sales started growing again.

So if they update the MacBook Air to say an i5-4200U or i5-5200U and drop the price $100-150, they could see a nice little spike in sales.

I’m cool with just a better Siri

I'll be buying so long as they don't make any drastic changes to ports or power cord. Any upgrades in speed/display would be nice. My 2012 is still cruising along.
Are you really expecting anything else than USB-C ports? :D

Keeping this thing around is not courageous at all.

I would imagine a lineup that goes something like this: (from cheap to expensive)
1. MacBook 12" (dual core)
2. New MacBook 14" (dual core, second USB-C)
3. MacBook Pro 13" (4 USB-C, with new Intel quad core CPUs)
4. MacBook Pro 15" (4 USB-C, with new more powerful Intel quad core + AMD Vega APUs)

Cut the price of the MB, bring a larger model that appeals to a broader audience and be done with it.

About the Air in the education market: Apple can't compete with Chromebooks at all.
Sure, an Air is definitely better than a flimsy Chromebook, but officials won't care.
It's price, price, price. Either make Air so cheap that you sell at a huge loss or Apple is going to lose anyway. And I'd bet that Apple won't be doing the former.

"Cheaper" MacBook Air? Cheaper than what? The current MacBook Air? I hardly believe so.

They should just lower the prices of the rMB.

Why though? I don’t see PC makers selling anything higher than a 1080p display for under 1000 dollars.

There seems to be this attitude that Apple should discount its products based on people’s wallets.

They would have released/announced something by now if that was the case.

They wouldn't release an ARM only mac without some kind of DP.
