It'd be alright if the capability is enabled and is compatible with third party accessories. It is an ok stopgap until Apple is ready to come out with their own.

Why not just wait a couple of hours and find out for yourself? Rumors are rumors are rumors. Most are spread by actors with agendas, namely confusing people and creating a FUD field.

But, but it’s so much fun to find the gaping holes in the logic and ramble on incessantly about it. No? Just me? Meh who cares I’m medicated enough that I could ramble on about anything. (As any poor soul who actually reads my posts will know :D)

Apple isn't prepared to debut its own first-party wireless charging accessory for the upcoming iPhones, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus are all expected to support inductive wireless charging when they are announced later today, so in the interim between the smartphones' launch and the launch of a first-party Apple wireless charging pad, users will have to purchase third-party accessories.

Apple isn't ready for the launch of its own wireless charging accessory because it has "higher requirements for wireless charger RF specifications," according to Kuo. This means that there is currently no definite timetable for the mass production of Apple's accessory, and it's unclear when such a device will launch. Apple might even be waiting for certain "technological breakthroughs" before ramping up production.

In the same report, Kuo said that Foxconn is planning to see a significant ramp-up in production on its 5.5-inch LCD iPhone assembly line, by as much as 70-80 percent. This falls in line with previous reports that said Apple plans to boost production and availability of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, while the OLED iPhone X will be particularly difficult to come by early on.

We're now just a few hours away from the official unveiling of the tenth-generation iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple TV 4K, Apple Watch Series 3, and more, all taking place at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park. MacRumors will follow all of the stories and news coming out of the event today with a live blog, articles, video recap, and more. Sold separately for $100+, no doubt.

Previous rumours said Apple would be requiring MFI certification, which is totally the kind of thing they would do, and is also totally crappy.

All new products have been leaked:
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8+
  • iPhone X Edition
  • Apple Watch Series 3
  • Apple TV (2017)
  • iPod Touch 7th Generation

Don’t forget ToastPod Titanium X and Apple WashDisher.

Ok, I should really shut up now until my morphine wears off a bit :D

More than that. Remember the one where Jobs was showing off (I think) iPhoto and the WiFi went out and you could see the steam wafting from his head. These are not made for Hollywood events where everything can be perfect because it's fake. This is all real. Can't expect perfection. Who hasn't given a presentation where everything wasn't completely baked.

Among the most memorable of these was at that other company, when Windows 98 spat out a BSOD on Bill Gates himself! :)

I think that they should have postponed the iPhone X event to March next year. According the rumors so far, some features will not be available now due to software issues, there will supply shortages, some of the accessories (like the wireless charger) are not ready yet... This is not the experience Apple is known for.

Well, rumours are rumours are rumours.
While there’s a better than average chance of the vast majority of rumours being on target considering the ridiculous amount of leaks lately. Until it happens (or doesn’t as the case may be) let’s not count Apple out.

They are after all pretty damn good at what they do and pretty adept at pulling some surprises out of the bag. Have we forgotten that?
As shocking as it may be to those who like to keep jabbing the pointy stick at Apple, they didn’t get where they are by accident. Nor are they the shambles of a company some people like to make out.

Certainly things don’t always go to plan, unexpected hiccups by their very nature take you by surprise and take time to diagnose the issues and make sure the job is done properly, even if it’s not on time. Or have we forgotten the Note 7 fiasco already? Better to hold off than push a product out for the sake of a timescale.

most people won't care, they'll just buy a third party charger if they want it.

Unless Apple has tweaked the requirements for wireless charging such that anyone who uses a "non-MFi certified" wireless charger will occasionally be greeted with a "This accessory is not supported" message along with the phone refusing to charge. Heck, from time to time, I get that message when using MFi certified Anker Lightning cables with my iPhone 7. When I get that message, I simply unplug the cable and plug it back into the phone and the phone continues to charge normally.

It's name was never New iPad. That was marketing used to differentiate it from the iPad 2 while dropping the number scheme (for a moment: they picked it back up with the Air 2).

Marketing or not, that looks like a name to me. If it was just a way to differentiate it than it would say "Old iPad" and not iPad 2. They gave it a stupid name, it sold poorly, and they quickly replaced it with the still but less stupid name of "iPad with Retina Display".

oh well... another accessory u will need to by if u want this. Don't count on wireless charging to come in the box.

I'd still rely on a charging stand personally,,, at least you can still use it better than laying flat

Makes me wonder if Apples device will be a wireless at a distance charger with Qi cross compatibility. I know it's very unlikely, just might be a reason Apple hasn't finished the puck yet? I'm really just spitballing here.
I don't understand the whole "wireless" thing. Doesn't the wireless charger need to be plugged in? If so, what is wireless about it?

Yeah I don't really get the hype. It's just a glorified dock. The phone has to be in contact with the charger, so I guess it eliminates that extreme inconvenience of plugging a lightning cable into the phone? Meh.

Doesn't your WiFi router need to be plugged in? What is wireless about that?

I semi-get this argument for inductive charging, but not for resonant charging.

It's not wireless. It's inductive. It makes it easier to "plug in" but it also makes it charge slower.

This tells me that this isn’t typical inductive charging. Inductive charging is very much mainstream and a well established and perfected technology. It’s in cheap toothbrushes and Apple already makes it for Apple Watch. The fact that they’re still working on it tells me that this is going to be much more cutting edge than what we’ve been lead to believe — probably long range resonance charging.

The perfect place to put it is in a new Airport that already makes the internet wireless (WiFi) and now will make charging wireless (AirPower). The receiver end will be built into the new iPhone so that when they’re finished working on the transmitter, it’ll work with all the latest iPhones already in circulation.

Exactly my kind of thinking. The technology exists, it works, it’s just not ratified yet. I believe the process has been started with the, I may get this wrong I’m highly medicated, FCC? Other countries I’m less sure about. It may be possible that’s the real hurdle they are facing at the moment. Less of a technical issue, more of a bureaucratic wall they’ve hit.

Of course that’s just a wild theory, but what the heck, this is a rumours site.

..... Are we all siting comfortably :D

Nice touch with the speak by Steve Jobs, but otherwise there is too much BS.

20 minutes has gone. When will it start?
