My Cat surprisingly has never touched wires or my electronics. I know it's something that does happen (my ex's cats would chew through every wire they could!)
There I was, in the mid 2000's, sitting in the living room, playing Unreal Tournament 2004 on my PowerBook, using a wired external Logitech pointing device for better aim, and one of our new kittens ran over and enthusiastically chomped on the moving cord, rendering it immediately useless - and my wife's reaction was gleeful and equally enthusiastic, "Oh look! Sylvie got her first mouse!" Something she delighted in repeating to all of our friends :)

Yeah, I bought a wireless mouse to replace it. Neither cat ever showed much further interest in cables, it was just that it was a moving target, and she was Crazy Kitten.

So either they won't mention the wireless charging capability of the phone (if they aren't announcing the charger), or the iPhone will be compatible with current wireless chargers.

I wish i could agree with you. I think Cook is obviously smart and knows a lot about finance and supply chain, but I don't think he has a clue about the consequences of his poorly chosen innovations or what it takes to run a technology company.

Yes, that is why I'm not a TC fan. He is a PC bean counter at heart. But even if he realize the consequences of today he has a large executive team, BODs, and activist investors to educate him.

RF? One wonders if they mean RF interference or RF charging. Perhaps we'll find out later today.

I think I'll hold on to my Energous shares for a while longer:rolleyes:

Wow...sounds like an Apple Maps like launch. This could be an epic fail if Face ID has issues too.

I've worked in a number of board rooms and I think one rule applies; if you want to get promoted to the that level you have to have proven that you go with the flow and don't question the leader, no matter what. That is why otherwise very smart people get kicked out of Sr Management. It even happened to Jobs. Its not about smart, its about loyalty.

Disappointing? Definitely...
Surprising? Not in the slightest...

Since Jobs' death, it seems increasingly clear that the annual CEO whip-cracking drive with weekend/24hr shifts to finish products ready for launch, has been replaced with Timmy's lackadaisical demeanour and drawl.

So true. Sycophants rule sadly.

And you would think they must be planning ahead. It's not like they woke up on Jan 1st 2017 to decide hey let's make iPhone X and add inductive charging to it. Knowing the number of people Apple employs, it's so hard to believe such type of half ass product releases.

It's almost like it's hard producing technical products at a global scale! They should drag in people from the Human Resources department to finish the inductive chargers!!

Hardly call this half-assed. It's probably the biggest release for Apple in a decade. They won't get it perfect, by the looks of it, but half-assed would look A LOT different than what we will end up getting.

Yes, BODs do not openly question day-to-day operations. That is not their task. But they are concerned with the overall growth of the company and if they see a leader that isn't capable of that they do no hesitate to make a move. That is why effective boards have independent members, not "yes" people. As you say it even happened to Jobs, kicked out of his own company.

Also I'm a bit confused by your use of "promotion" in regards to BOD. There is no promotion there. One is nominated then elected to be on the board. If you are on the board of a major company you are likely either a current or former senior exec at some other company or a proxy for a major investor. No BOD is concerned about promotion, just not being part of a company that makes a goof. Apple's BODs except for Cook is 100% independent of Apple employees.

Ehem, you mean *New iPad*. There was no iPad 3. Let's not forget the stupid things Apple has done.

It's name was never New iPad. That was marketing used to differentiate it from the iPad 2 while dropping the number scheme (for a moment: they picked it back up with the Air 2).

I don't use my phone to watch TV in bed. I just use it for chromecast control. So typically once I set what i'm watching, it goes on the charger. Sure, I may pull it off the dock from time to time to change programming, or check an alert that came in, but for the most part, there's always enough charge from being on the charger.

and if i'm in bed or lounging around the house, I will typically opt to use the iPad for the larger screen anways.

So it’s not up to their standards. I wonder what will be better when it’s finally out.

Develop apps without plugging in a usb cable.

Oh, if only. The amount of cables I’ve destroyed simply because they get plugged in and out and *wheeked about so much. Even the *ahem cough* indestructible ones get fecked after a while.

...... *Wheeked, Scottish, verb. To move around frequently and occasionally with force. See also; hauled, clattered aboot, whelked, battered.

Fecked, well you can guess that one :p

From the Wired Liveblog

"It’s unlike Apple to let customers sample an unfinished product. Savor the incompleteness of Apple Park!

Theme of the day?

How about instead of people complaining they invent it themselves?

Exactly. I once invented nothing. It’s kind of like Perspex or glass, metal even. It holds thing in when assembled. So you could for example fill it with water like a swimming pool but there’s nothing holding it in place.

To be fair I had partaken of a lot of a certain substance at the time :D
