Does not work very well in my Jeep.

I can't tell wether I'm supposed to press the Voice control button, or press and hold it. Neither works reliably, and Siri can take a long time to "beep" and become active, if it does at all.

I think it's a Siri problem in general. I have the same problem with my watch.

According to my reading, only on the M and X models, a $300 option (yikes).

Like I said before it's a published option w/ order code in the 2017 order guides for the 2,3,4,6,7 variants (inc. M) as well as some of the X models.

Tad pricey, yes, esp. since it's an option for an option but no different than how BMW originally handled factory iPod integration. That was a $300 option then too. BMW is a master w/ getting you that way.

We've owned three of their cars, so we know. We really know.

Looking at buying a new car so we played with the CarPlay vs built in apps...

Can't say we found any compelling reason to upgrade to CarPlay.

Built-in nav worked quickly and well. Music app worked well. Bluetooth good enough but 3.5mm AUX input if needed. Could find iPhone when plugged into USB.

Needing a wire to connect to CarPlay seems silly. You need to activate CarPlay with an extra button push. It disabled builtin apps and buttons on steering wheel controls didn't work.

We walked out going "Why? A $1000 for that?".

Can anyone give us a compelling reason why CarPlay is worth the money?

Just bought a 2017 Kia Sportage EX with Carplay. Absolutely LOVE this vehicle! So many cool features including Carplay. Had a 2015 Honda CRv and it had nothing but problems connecting to my iPhone. Bluetooth drops in and out all the time...can't connect via USB half the time...they NEVER update their software...they give nothing but excuses about it...and their own software blows. The car is mechanically reliable I guess, but proper infotainment integration is just too important these days to get it wrong for multiple years of owning a car. No more vehicle purchases for me unless Carplay is onboard. And NO more Hondas for sure.

My wife doesn't mind the CRV though so its hers now :)

It is not available on the 2016 HR-V. A family member just bought one and I'd hoped she could use her new iPhone to navigate, but she's apparently stuck with the factory navigation. Another family member has a 2011-or-so Civic hybrid and the graphics for the navigation are firmly stuck in 2002.

The update is on myuvo.com now. Woohoo!!!

It has instructions on how to download and install it. I will be doing mine when I get home from work tonight. Enjoy everyone. :)

Not so fast...I saw that too and tried to follow instructions but the link they say is there is NOT.

I called Kia and they gave some lame excuse that it "really isn't available yet but will be soon...and when it is you'll get an email". It's really lame that they posted all this stuff on their site saying "download now", but the software really isn't there yet. Unless it's just me.

jmkinny: Try and see if it's there for you or not and let us all know.

I have already downloaded it to the SD card. Will put it in the car and let it update on my way home.

It's a long press on the steering wheel VR button to activate it, at least that's how it works in my Challenger with the Uconnect 8.4. I've not ever had any trouble with it working at all.

A little off topic here, but I've been curious about Uconnect for others. I have a 16 Caravan. To hear anything from my phone, USB, BT, Aux, I have to have the volume set over 30 which is like 85-90%, often I just have to have it at max volume. Not a huge deal, except as soon as it disconnects, or I restart the car the radio is then playing at Max volume which is 10x as loud as the volume it was through the phone. Is this just how bad Uconnect is, or can I change something to fix this?

I've downloaded to SD card wondering how long does it take to install on car? Instructions says 40 minutes but that sounds excessive.

Ooooh, Kia joins Tesla in releasing software updates that give new features to existing cars (as opposed to grudgingly fixing defects.)

Does the Kia have its own internet connection to download the update itself, or do you have to download it to a computer, and then transfer it to the car via a USB or disk or something?

You have to removed your SD card from the Navigation system, connected to a computer and satrt downloading the new update for CarPlay. just you need to be patience it takes 24 hours.

Kia has announced that CarPlay and Android Auto will be available as free software updates for a wider range of select 2014 to 2017 model year vehicles equipped with UVO3 or a compatible navigation system.

The new U.S. models eligible for the CarPlay update specifically, in addition to the 2017 Sorento and Sportage, include the 2017 Forte, 2015-16 Optima, 2015-16 Optima Hybrid, 2015-16 Sedona, 2014-16 Soul, and 2015-16 Soul EV.

The CarPlay software update will be available for download by the end of July on the UVO Home website. Kia said it will notify customers signed up for email notifications via UVO Home when the software is available for download.

Kia's other CarPlay vehicles include the 2017 Cadenza and 2017 Forte5. Its parent brand Hyundai offers CarPlay in the 2016 Sonata, 2017 Elantra, and 2017 IONIQ. Kia also sells select models with CarPlay in Canada and other regions around the world.

The software update is notable given that it involves a number of older 2014 and 2015 models, further proving that automakers are capable of offering CarPlay in properly equipped older vehicles if they choose to do so. Unsurprisingly, however, most brands have limited CarPlay to their newest models only.

BMW, Nissan, and Ford are among the newest CarPlay partners, leaving Toyota and Mazda as two of the largest automakers that have yet to adopt the software platform. Apple periodically updates a list of available CarPlay models on its website.

Great!! that we Kia owners we are able to update!! awesome KIA. the only problem is that takes to much time to download this new update. It's been already 6 hours and I am in 15%. The system only says it will be a while but doesn't say how long. According to the remaining time will be approximately 24 hours or more.

Ouch. Is it all automatic or do you actually have to babysit it for those 24 hours?

Hmm...you may want to msg @jmkinny (post #23) - they have theirs connected to their home wifi - might be a wee bit quicker - provided you have decent signal where you're parking your Kia. (if you have slow wifi, that would certainly present challenges) - heh - may be worthwhile temporarily moving your WAP to the garage. :)

That's a good choice! I bought a Kia Forte 5 in 2015 and I absolutely love the car. They're definitely an underrated company, but I can't say enough positive things about Kia.

Just brought home a '16 SXL! Now to download that update. ;)

Update complete! :D
