I don't need it.....but just by curiosity, does this company got their hands on the new MacBook?? Because they seem to have one one they're picture..??

- They don't. It's a (quite poorly done) rendering of some sort. The keyboard is all wrong - most likely copied directly from a MacBook Pro. The screen hinge looks wrong, too.

Here's a box I would like to see made available:

1. One extra USB C for charging purposes.
2. HDMI
3. USB A
4. AUDIO in or another USBC

Pretty much everything I have are covered by those ports.

I know, I noticed that...but the hinge they rendered look better than the big plastic bar on the actual rMB :$

I know! It was so badly done they had to blur out their own product in most of the pictures, and try to make it look like it was being done on purpose...not good at all.

Henge Docks. Go to the blog, scroll down to the Macbook post and enter your comments - they're listening.

Henge Docks look like well made products, but a bit "overdone" IMO. rMB doesn't need a huge stationary dock - I just want a small mobile adapter that I can use in the office or take with me on the road. Also, $399 is an absurd price.

I think the regular ones are cheaper (?). I've never been a dock person - I tend to have lots of cables snaked around. But it's an option. I think a properly configured dongle would give you most of the same functionality (depending on how many and what type of connectors Henge puts on their dock) at a lower cost.

Yeah, I can sort of see the appeal of these larger docks for MacBook Pros, which have bazillion of ports that need to be replicated.. and it's a bit of a pain to add all the cables every time you "dock" or "undock".

With rMB 12" - this whole issue goes away, as there is just a single port to plug stuff into. So all we need is a small port replicator, that cab be hidden behind the monitor.. with a single USB-C cable that you plug into a MacBook.

Regular retail price they claim will be $98? Wow...

Like I said good luck, given a couple of months and the greater uptake of USB C by more manufacturers, adapters like this will be sub $10, sure they wont be beautifully finished with anodised aluminium connectors, equally being digital they will perform exactly the same. Apple will sell an adapter with the same function, albeit larger for $15 and they are notoriously expensive on accessories.

With a base price of $39 upwards and "limited edition" cables I don't see this product going anywhere fast given USB C to USB C & USB C to USB A cables are going to be ubiquitous sooner rather than later, same as USB A to USB Micro etc are now.

Q-6

Yep. You already find similar things on eBay for under $8 bucks, with I am sure more to come. It's basically a commodity part.

This guy is insane if he thinks he is going to sell these at the price he is asking.

USB 3.1 3.0 Type C Male to USB 3.0 A Female Cable Adapter

Too rigid for safety.

When you stick a USB plug in the adapter, the combined length gives you a rigid lever sticking out the side of your Macbook. Knock the end of the lever hard and best case you'll destroy the adapter. Worst case you'll damage your MacBook's usb-c port.

In their designs, Apple deliberately decouple the plug and socket ends of their adapters with a very short cable. This prevents stress on the Macbook's port.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this. I was surprised at so many positive reactions.

This is great. It will be truly useful if their solution supports DP AltMode and power passthrough. However, I suspect that it will only support data.

I would be surprised if it doesn't, or are you saying that it might not support power in, because, the USB-A clearly supports power out to charge iPhone?

I am saying it may support baseline USB power profile (10W), which is enough to support smartphone charging.. But I want to see more advanced 40W profile support, so I can charge rMB while using other USB-C devices.

This requires more advanced design, and I doubt we will see it at this priceppont.

I was about to back it for two, one for me, and one for my wife. Then right before I clicked the confirmation, I thought to myself two things...

1) USB-C should become fairly ubiquitous. Quickly
2) Nothing I have ever gotten on Kickstarter has shipped on time.

Combine point 1 with point 2, and I assume that I'll already have a solution that essentially does this before this one comes out. I agree it's elegant, but if it turns out to be great and no other alternatives have shipped, I'll just buy the darn thing at full price, but I doubt that will happen.
