Anyone supporting this is misguided. Parents are the ones who should be monitoring this, not the Government. I get that the people of China don't really get much say in these things but its seriously odd seeing people in here saying "Our Govt should do this." No thanks, the Govt work for us, not the other way around (at least that's the way its supposed to be).

Hah, China has a field day cracking down on everything right now, just like in the old days…

But in contrast to the reckless political campaigns from before, this has some merit to it. If China's young generation becomes too sedentary, too effeminate, too obese, too dumb, too dependent on sugar water, they will just turn into fat brats doing what they want without respect for others and of no use for society.

This is why China will have the edge over an America in free fall, this is why China will prevail.

Is it the role of the government to foster and educate the citizens? Not in America, but it has been done in China for thousands of years. It is confucianism in practice.

This is true (I'm western, btw). And good for them.

I don’t mean this is anyway hateful but this is the truth in the west kids now don’t know if they are a boy or a girl or both and in China kids are very smart and skilled, the system in the west isn’t working the woke pc culture is damaging kids, there has to be a line with the people in power to look after it’s people and as much as I love freedom I think sometimes things should change.

Indeed. The West needs a Lee Kuan Yew, and it needs one in a hurry.

I do believe in freedom but I get why they do this, kids in the west are addicted to it and don’t know how to go outside and play with friends so I see it from both sides, they don’t want kids playing fortnite 24/7
Yeah, that's why kids have parents.

I can't believe anyone would look at this and even consider it as a policy to emulate. It's disgusting.

Look how kids are becoming in the west, parents don’t have a say, they go to college normal and come out radical left and completely changed it’s not the parents doing it, it’s the society that’s so damaging, kids being taught lgbt stuff and confusing them at a young age it’s so damaging and again no hate just being real, you see kids now that think they are non binary and it’s not the parents fault, culture as well is being erased from many western countries because of political correctness, at least in Asia and China they stay true to who they are and don’t want there culture changed with woke nonsense

So many comments in this thread sound like old people complaining about today’s generation. If you think kids today don’t have friends or “don’t go outside”, you don’t have kids. Western kids today are socially, economically and environmentally conscious in a way that older generations simply can’t understand. They’re smarter than you, and it scares you. If you don’t believe that, you haven‘t had enough meaningful conversations with them, you’ve simply bought into hateful propaganda. My experience with “kids today” is that they are, by and large, on a mission to fix the problems that the previous couple generations were content to pass onto them.

Imagine if that happened here in the US lol.. Total social melt down!

Kids, and even many adults, here are so socially disconnected and aloof, it's scary and I'd say quite proportional to various mental issues plaguing the West!

That said, it is ultimately the parents responsibility to watch out for the general wellbeing of their kids and not the government 🙄.. But, this is 'Gina we're talking about here so.. no surprises!!

By doing what? Tweeting? The average American kid I meet is intimidated by direct eye contact.

In what way are kids gonna fix problems from the past; your wrong the older generation was 100 times better if you compare kids now to in the 90s it’s a joke, now days the young lot get triggered and depressed because someone mis genders them, come on people were so much better in the old days

An absolutely Brilliant move by the Chinese Govt !

More Chinese kids will (now) grow up to be Scientists & Engineers.

Kids elsewhere, we'll, now, things don't look so bright for them.

Alot less bright today than they did yesterday !

The Ball is now in Apple's court to announce "something" that will allow parents to set Time Limits on what, maybe Apple Arcade for starters ...

so parents could potentially try to keep their kids competitive.

To save face, Apple "may" need to pivot away from ALL Game Apps (over time).

Disclaimer: I'm looking at this from an Engineer's perspective (Cal Poly, SLO).

Great post well said

I think a lot of nerds tend to be commies because they don't really understand human beings. Feel free to move to a commie country though.

Oh, wait, no! People vote with their feet and only move to the West, nvm 😅
Incorrect. I know a good number of people who moved from the west into the said “commie country”. There are plenty of noodles to be made there, if you know how.

Follow your logic, then the whole Silicon Valley and California in general are founded by “Commies“ and are uber successful because of the “Commies”. The richest State in America are ruled by “Commies”, and most billionaires in the US are either “Commies” or work closely with the “Commies”. Then, the US of A must be the most communist nation on the planet.

We also have indoctrination centres like the Communist Stanford, Communist MIT, Communist Caltech...

Parents are busy working. Offline games has the benefit of the device’s parental controls. Online games, not so much. It’s probably one of the drivers for this.

What’s worse, video sharing sites tend to show up in search results in-line. This makes it very hard to differentiate between searching the web “for school” and watching trash in Youtube — as far as Apple’s Screen Time reports are able to show.

That's really bad and stupid. Games are not only entertainment. There are educational games too. Simplistic view from a totalitarian government.
I don’t agree with government overreach but to be clear, it’s only online games. I’ve never seen educational games that are FPS or MMO or Starcrafty, which I think are the real targets here.

Kids and Teens in China Banned From Playing Online Video Games for More Than 3 Hours Per Week Or 3 Hours Per Day?

Yikes! China is definitely not playing any games.

Even the school times are ridiculous in China.

… and that’s probably one enabler which brought a poverty-stricken country just short of 30 years ago into a new space-faring nation.

I always wished that Apple could give us a way to turn off the entire Games section on the App Store, and not just for the Apple Arcade, because they are just not relevant to me. But the bulk of App Store revenue comes from gaming.

It’s from 8 to 9 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So, 3 hours per week + 1 hour per day on national holidays if landed on a week day.

School time is long intentionally so that parents don’t have to spend time and money on childcare, tutoring, vacation and extracurricular payments.
