Yeah kids now days live on there phone and computer with a headset playing games 24:7 it’s not healthy and they have zero social skills
That sounds pretty damn unhealthy - it leaves no time for school, eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom.

I always wished that Apple could give us a way to turn off the entire Games section on the App Store, and not just for the Apple Arcade, because they are just not relevant to me. But the bulk of App Store revenue comes from gaming.
For teenagers and pre-teen? Screen Time, 1 minute limit for games at all times.

Before pre-teen? Disable app store altogether. Download all apps they will ever need, off-load most of them, activate app off-loading, and then turn off all access to the App Store.

At least that works for offline games. Still no solution for online ones though.

Seriously, wtf is this comment section? You guys really would prefer the government to do your parenting for you? 🥴
Because most parents simply wouldn’t otherwise, or they are constantly out-smarted by their kids. If the problem is solved from the provider-end, it solves the problem for all parents.

If children are addicted to video games in epidemic proportions, then it’s a national security problem because you simply wouldn’t have heathy, well-socialized and masculine men to be soldiers.

Incorrect. I know a good number of people who moved from the west into the said “commie country”. There are plenty of noodles to be made there, if you know how.
Oh yeah, I‘m sure they‘ll be staying there now with when even more crackdowns kick in. They came to make a quick buck in a (at the time) free market - thanks to the US btw.
Follow your logic, then the whole Silicon Valley and California in general are founded by “Commies“ and are uber successful because of the “Commies”. The richest State in America are ruled by “Commies”, and most billionaires in the US are either “Commies” or work closely with the “Commies”. Then, the US of A must be the most communist nation on the planet.

We also have indoctrination centres like the Communist Stanford, Communist MIT, Communist Caltech...
I want what you‘re smoking.

Americans will never go for this because we don't believe it's the government's job to tell us how best to live. They try to tell us to do anything (like wear a mask or get vaccinated) and we freak out and resist. And that's part of what I like about the U.S., even if it has its downsides. I'd take it any day over China where people are arrested or disappeared for criticizing the government or creating "subversive" art. The American philosophy is that parents are responsible for what their children do and it's a fact that many parents don't care to understand what their kids do online and give them iPads when they're toddlers because it "keeps them quiet", making sure they're addicted from a young age. But I know plenty of kids who have no video game addiction, so this alarmist talk about it being an "epidemic" seems like a bunch of crap and it's not that difficult for parents to step it up. I'm not going to say the government should do it just because some parents can't put in the effort. Fun to see the CCP apologists in this thread though. :D

You're replying to someone who tries to promote the Chinese government in every thread. Sig used to have links to Chinese documentaries about the US, but I guess that was too obvious.

Good. I used to think video games were neutral/good, but these days companies hire psychologists and various other experts with the intention of creating more and more addictive products. The video game industry needs way stronger regulation

I’m shocked at the comments supporting this. May your wishes come true and you get to live in a country like China. You’ll love it. I just hope you don’t drag the rest of us.
i lived in china for couple of years after college, besides navigating without able to read the signs and the stuff you expect from being a foreigner, i experienced none of the doom and gloom you people keep perpetuating about commies this commies that.

So many comments in this thread sound like old people complaining about today’s generation. If you think kids today don’t have friends or “don’t go outside”, you don’t have kids. Western kids today are socially, economically and environmentally conscious in a way that older generations simply can’t understand. They’re smarter than you, and it scares you. If you don’t believe that, you haven‘t had enough meaningful conversations with them, you’ve simply bought into hateful propaganda. My experience with “kids today” is that they are, by and large, on a mission to fix the problems that the previous couple generations were content to pass onto them.
Thank you. As a millennial, I can see that the next generation is far better than my generation. Boomers leeched off the greatest generation and took all the credit for being "self-sufficient" while voting for corporate-friendly politicians that sold their kids' futures away to the stock market.

Now, those kids are mostly raising kids of their own who care more about what is moral and just than what is most profitable.

That is actually some good news honestly, I’m not sure about 3hrs though.
I do see this a major issue as I had roommates back in college that literally came out of rooms once a week to go buy some groceries, no social life whatsoever. Today, they are having problems finding jobs.

Here's the full break-down of the school schedule :(

The good thing about this is that all the migrant workers, like ones who assemble iPhones 12 hours a day don’t have to worry about their children becoming gang members, and their kids will be forced to receive a rigours education to the best of their aptitude will allow, so that their kids don’t have to assemble iPhones 12 hours a day.

That’s why China develops so fast, or all East Asians for that matter. They sacrifice for the future, generations after generations, to unthinkable proportions.

Same with the “model minorities” here in the West. When you find an Asian dude making more than you, ask him what his parents did, and their grandparents. Never ceased to amaze me every time. Asian girls though, not always, that depends on their “life priorities”.

Why is China still interested in trying to turn future generations into a functional society? They should take a lesson from us, we got it all figured out. I guess we’ll see who has the last laugh when we send our mighty generation Z, with their stunted childhood development and awesome proficiency in vidya, up against their kids with their laughably olde-timey “scholastics” and “physical fitness” lol. Communists, pffft. It’s so sad they’ll never get their priorities right.

If only it said this, people would have empathy. "Adults in China are restricted from visiting apple news apps or websites about apple to once time a week." It's all entertainment folks.

Bad parenting -> kids don't have kids -> problem solves itself.

Unfortunately, it’s usually the opposite, although, in this case, you’re right that the gamer addict types aren’t reproducing.

I'm gen Z. This is accurate, but you're missing what they're missing (for the most part): social skills.

And yes I blame the iPhones and video games partially. School and other things are also way more competitive than before, so kids are more anxious about the future. I'm even glad I wasn't born just 2 years later. Meanwhile both parents are working more often, which IMO is an indication that the economy is worse for most people than before. Lastly, many things that used to be fun for older gens are now considered unsafe, high-liability, etc.
