Credit to the kid for apologising and taking full responsibility. I think 310 quid each and a lifetime ban from that Apple Store would be a good punishment. I think it would be harsh to give them criminal records as this does appear to be a silly ill thought out mistake. They should pay for what they did of course, I just hope this turns out to be a valuable life lesson.
I think they should have to do community service. Cleaning up the block surrounding Apple Stores in front of every Apple Store in London for the next year and paying back the cost for each phone seems appropriate.

I rest my case. There is nothing more to say to you.
You believe in your justice system. Which is broken and flawed. (Again evidence everywhere)
You believe in jail time to prevent crime. Which is proven time and time again to be ineffective.
You believe that I have to live in the US to understand your justice system or make an assessment of your society.
You need to live in the US to fully understand the justice system here in the US and how it works. There is nothing like living in it to fully understand how things work here in the US. You can site all of the studies you want to about jail effectiveness but that doesn't explain how our system works. Every justice system has its own benefits and drawbacks that people can find if they look for it. Also one could argue that much of the drawbacks in the US system are related to how they treat drug offenders etc...

Theres no point, hes not an individual thats capable of understanding. He's the type of person that doesnt asses or analyze for himself.

He reads a book, therefore its correct, besides the fact that any book can be subjective.

Kind of like how american history books have said that they "won the vietnam war" (newer ones now say it was a stalemate, lol)

seems like the type that believes terrorists hate America and the western world because they "hate freedom" (as the media portrays) rather than the fact that the US has and still backs tyrants for allegiance, sells weapons to the israelis and its muslim adversaries to kill each other, installing puppet leaders, and so on and so forth. Oh and we gave weapons to that one guy that committed genocide, what was his name? Saddam, who basically controlled Northern Iraq with the fear of genocide, and now that hes gone. Look at northern Iraq now, and I'm not talking about ISIS, it was unstable well before they came into play.

But hey, thats what books, articles, and the media says. so it must be correct, and therefore I'm wrong.

its mind blowing how he claims I'm ignorant, while he claims he knows US society than US citizens themselves.

Kind of like how some guys claim macs are crap, overpriced hardware, when they haven't even used a Mac.

Nothing beats first hand experience.

Have u got proof to sustain this statement?

I've been carrying my 6 Plus in the front pocket of my jeans which are on the skinny side and I've had no problem with bending.

+1

I always wear skinny/slim fit and I've been to work, driving car, commuting on public transport, walking a dog, riding a horse, cycling a bike, cutting the grass, washing the car you name it. Everything you see in a tampon advert. And it is still straight.

The solution to this situation is probably pretty clear to most parents. I would be marching my child straight to the Apple Store and he would be admitting to what he did and apologizing for bending that phone! I would pull out my wallet and pay for the damaged phone! My child would be selling off their cherished gadgets to repay me. Any smartphone he owns would be taken away and replaced with a dumb device used only for emergency contact! Since my kid has obviously proven they exercise poor judgement in response to thInge they view on the internet they would be losing all web access except for school work and that access would take place in a open spot in my home under direct supervision. Facebook and YouTube accounts would also be closed as they have proven they can't handle them.

I would probably also ground him and/ or restrict their access to each other...as they don't make good choices when they are together.

Dear god, finally a sensible post in this thread! The right way to address this isn't rocket science, as long as your conscience is in at least decent shape.

Unfortunately, like you wrote earlier this level of arrogance doesn't develop overnight so it might well be that their parents have no sense of responsibility themselves. We can only hope that those that end up passing judgement on these kids are at least mature enough to bear in mind what the right conduct in this situation - that which you suggested in your post - would be, given ideal circumstances.

The "burn them at the stake!!" mentality present in much of this thread is far scarier than the prospect of what these kids did. And it does nothing but make things worse. Kids don't grow up feeling alienated, scared, insecure and eventually stupid, arrogant or in worse cases violent for no reason.
