i'm just going to point this out now, for anyone that's not too familiar. Kim Jong II is completely crazy. I mean, like, ****ing nuts. He's worse than our president, tho thankfully he doesn't have access to the armies and weapons. His people are so twisted from his censorship, they think he invented TV and the internet. It's wild.

wdlove, i don't think this was for the elite, "quality food for university students" makes me think it's biggest appeal is that it can be produced fast and cheap, and i think this is actually for the lower classes. I doubt he gives a rats ass about nutrition, he's insane, as i mentioned above.

paul

Under the Soviet Union Style Communism, which I would imagine that North Korea is emulating, the elite class were party members and the well educated. I just hope that he isn't using dogs. Agree that he is insane. He still has a large army, nuclear technology, and missiles.

Now if they wanted to sell a healthy burger, they should be selling Bison burgers. They're lean, healthy, extremely tasty, and they only cost a dollar more than your standard hamburger.

Hmmm. I've been wanting to try Bison for a while now. How is it compared to beef? Considering it's a lean meat, it has to be a little gamey right?

Its not really a good meat for burgers because it is so lean. Bison tastes a lot like beef. It is to beef what turkey is to chicken. Then again a lot of that is what the critter eats.

LOL :D

There are different kinds of dog, and thus different tastes.

A cultivated dog, which is lives in a very small pen, and gets very little exercise. I don't know the name of the breed, but the ones that I saw were big and had long hair. To me, these types have somewhat of a fatty/rich taste. The meat is very tender and expensive. I would say very similar to Kobe beef.

A normally raised dog, which exercises like a regular dog, but is raised like cattle if you will. In this case it depends on what part you are eating. To me, while it tastes different than beef, it is similar in the way the cuts are (like different types of steak).

Wild dog. These are the very lean types. The source of these is generally an unfortunate victim (pet) that ventures away from home and gets caught. This type has more of a wild game taste like you would find with deer/squirrel/rabbit etc.

Never had any raw dog. It was always cooked.

Now here in Japan, they prefer things raw like horse, beef, etc. Yesterday evening for example the wife and I went out for Yakiniku. I had bi bim bop with raw beef (hamburger style) on top. Very good!

When you eat horse, they have three major kinds of grades just like with tuna (Toro or O'Toro -- Very fatty, Chutoro -- Fatty, Akami -- Lean).

One last point about dog, you have to get away from Seoul to get good dog.

Now I'm hungry! :D

This is very true.

We used to raise cattle. Depending on what they are fed determines the type of beef you get in the result.

In our case, the beef was very lean. When we butchered, we made cuts such as steaks (rib, NY, etc), roast and hamburger. All the rest we ground up into hamburger. So yes, some of our hamburger was made of meat that you would normally purchase in the store as steak. Very good quality hamburger mind you. But it was also very lean.

...very difficult to grill. Usually it just fell apart on the grill.

BTW, the same holds true for milk. What the cow is fed can help to determine the taste of the milk.

Nothing new that we don't already know.

Remember the human wave attacks during the 'first phase' of the Korean War? (First phase meaning the Korean War has not ended yet. Its only in a cease fire.)

I think that its time to reintroduce flamethrowers and flametanks. Those have got to work best during human wave attacks. Though, the recent X1028 'buckshot' ammo for the M1A Abrams ought to be good for human wave attacks too. :D

Understand.

However, I was replying based on Paul's incorrect comment:

"tho thankfully he doesn't have access to the armies and weapons"

In fact, he controls the military and their WMDs. As I understand, North Korea considers a chemical weapon a normal weapon vice a WMD.

The Beehive round, which has been around for years, was a good one as well.

Hmm... what was the Beehive round... do tell.

How about this? What if Kim Jong Il decides to go and initiate violence. Remember, the Korean War was started by the North in a surprise attack. We have something like 37,000 US servicemen in South Korea, plus a few more hundred thousand South Korean soldiers.

What types of scenarios do you guys see happening?

I'm starting to get less worried about the 'cuddliness' of vertebrates I eat these days. I'm still quite picky about my invertebrates - shellfish are OK but other than that I'm not too keen on anything that's got an exoskeleton or no skeleton at all...

For himself, there are 200 scientists who fulltime job it is to watch what he eats to lengthen his life. I mean, this is a guy who has workers check every grain of rice he eats to make sure he doesn't get any broken or otherwise imperfect pieces.

Wow. Maybe he should have gotten 199 scientists and a hairdresser though :D

apparently you have never left your house? our country has a major homeless population, yet we are unable to provide adequate shelter and human neccesities, but we can drop a billion a month into an unending war (the only way it will ever end is through a peaceful resolution, or genocide).

Yeah man, I have never been outside. I guess our country would rather protect the working person, the one that drives the economy, rather than the one that does not have a job and does not help the economy. I guess our priorities our out of whack eh?

How does bombing Iraq help the working person?

So you go from saying our country is great because it takes care of the homeless, to condeming countries for helping their homeless. Take a stance for christs sake.

I'd much rather spend a billion tax dollars on welfare than war. But I'd much rather not spend a billion dollars at all. Libertarian.

Here are some "highlights" of North Korea's food distribution system:

North Korea has built reserve rice storage facilities with the target of storing at least one million tons of grain or grain supply sufficient for 170 days national consumption. As of the end of 1995 North Korea had grain storage facilites capable of storing at least 1.42 million tons of grain.

Of the total 73 grain storage facilities located in remote mountain areas which are under the control of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces, North Korea built new half-submerged type grain storage facility at 60 grain storage areas. The construction of these new half-submerged type grain storage facilities began at the end of 1995, when foreign relief goods from international organizations and western countries were sent to North Korea right after floods damage crops. The construction of these grain storage facilities aroused suspicions that the 150,000 tons of rice provided to North Korea by the ROK Government and the 500,000 tons of rice provided by the Japanese Government were diverted for military purposes.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/dprk/food.htm

Since the famine began in 1995, some sources estimate that around 10 percent of North Korea's population has perished from starvation and hunger-related illnesses.* While conditions have improved somewhat since the peak of the crisis in 1996-97, chronic food shortages remain, and are likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Hooray for state control

Obviously you have not traveled the world much. So be it.

American culture does not define the world's palette -- thank God. Other cultures have their own unique and quite tasty dishes. Of course to find out, you have to try them first.

Ya man, if we had state control in the US, some dope would try to serve school children ketchup as a vegetable.

Maybe lil' Kim will try that next. He might pick up some new supporters from surprising places.

Anyway, he is a nut. Lets take over that country next.
