I think they should have done this out the door but I suppose they wanted to test the water first. Specifically it would have been nice to have a higher local capacity.

I dont. If they did that, they would face Apple straight on, at a price point that wouldn't scream "BUY ME". The hardest part of building a platform is always to get initial growth. The "cheap" route seems like a nice way to bootstrap the platform. Once that is done, and people are "in", they can go head to head with Apple. Before that? Not so much.

But we know LTD posted that as an insult to Windows as he thinks Lion is the best thing ever, hence my sarcastic reply.

To me, Lion surely beats Leopard and SL. Then again, i haven't had any real problems with it, and I've taken my time to figure out how to make it usable as well... (for some reason, all great settings seemed to be turned the wrong way by default)

It's not even beta yet, you're using unpolished pre-alpha get-it-out-to-people-to-play-with code. What you're seeing now is only the barest preview of what the final product will be.

Even though I'm still a bit iffy on the whole Metro as the new start menu, desktop as an app thing, everything I've read thus far does show that MS knows it's not the most comfortable fit for a keyboard and mouse, and are working towards making it feel more natural for a desktop environment.

Here's hoping they succeed.

Don't get me wrong it looks fantastic, the weather tile alone is like whoa! but I just hope MS takes a page from Apple regarding usability and intuitiveness; if Metro is to run on tablets, netbooks, HTPC, desktop, and notebook, then it should be as intuitive as possible on all.
