Where did you buy it from? eBay? See if the seller will do an exchange for you.
Also, I have a .6 drive and it's working fine. I wonder if this could be a different issue, though the iBooks and PowerBooks probably have different IDE controllers.

I think that's where the problem lies. SM2236 has some different features than SM2231 which G3 iBook's controller does not support. First one is in fact CF controller, second one is IDE. Similar but a little diferent.
If .6 works in PowerBook, it will work in iBook G4 too, as it does have that same controller as PB.

I've never opened my ibook, i'm a little scared of it.. what do you think, I may ask for a remplace or try with this one... ? I must set it master or slave?
