I really like the way your iMac came out. We are not going for an iMac, but rather our old Mini. I want to get one of those mounts that can have it hang underneath one of the kitchen cabinets. As far as the display, we are going to look for just a small wide screen LCD.
I contacted the developer of YummySoup yesterday, and asked him about more import options. He emailed me back and told me that today he would release 1.0.4 today. He said it that would let me drag selections into the recipe editor like the ingredients, etc.
I tried MacGrourment, but I just find it too complicated. Besides, it doesn't have the online library feature either.

I'll consider it, step by step as in the bolts used, the holes drilled, etc?
a mini would work well also, esp if you can conceal the cables!
Good to see yummysoup coming along, I'll have to check out the latest version!
Eventually I'll do a comparo of all the main recipe softwares available..
That would definitely be a good read and as a resource for others (and maybe me in the future 😛).

Love this idea, Cybix. I plan on mimicking your project when I move to Chicago this spring, assuming I have a kitchen that will accommodate this project.
My only other concern is that my iMac may not support wall-mounting. I have a 20" iMac G5 with built-in iSight.

unless there is a third party solution, it's not possible, only the current 24" model is mountable...

I'm currently working on some downloadable doco/howto for this entire thing. Will also be doing a "recipe software review" as well, soon. And will consider some alternative howto's which are simular to this, including using a Mac Mini rather than an iMac..
I should have video'ed the install and done a podcast or something hahaha "iKitchen howto".
Hope to improve this thread, keep it updated, and throw up some decent downloadable doco!

I have an old G4 800 -- 17 " iMac that I'm replacing with a 24" iMac and you've got me thinking about trying to find a spot for it in the kitchen area where it would look out of place.
It still works just fine for internet and e-mail and I do love the form factor.
Our kitchen is a bit tight so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to claim any counter space for the project.
Does anyone know of a mounting bracket made specifically for the iLamp model imac?

You can not mount the iMac G4, as that would require removing the computer from the display. They need to remain connected.

I'm confused... I thought the iMac you used was a 20" G5? Does the iSight version not have wall-mount options? If not, then I'm not lost anymore. 🙂

The G5 iMacs were all wall-mountable. However, of the Intel iMacs, only the 24" is wall-mountable.

I understand about the 24"er, but the guy up above said he had a 20" G5 iMac with iSight. Does the 20"er with the iSight have wall mounting capabilities like Cybix's 20" G5 which doesn't have an iSight? 😕

I'm sorry, you're right, I was mistaken. iSight iMacs, be they G5 or Intel, cannot be wall mounted in sizes 20" and below:
"iMac G5 (iSight) and iMac (Early 2006) computers, while similar in form to previous iMac G5 models, are not compatible with the iMac G5 VESA Mount Adapter Kit (part number M9755G/A).
Apple will not be offering this kit for installation on iMac G5 (iSight) or iMac (Early 2006) computers. "

i am pretty sure Mac os x has a built in PDF printer. just use MS word, go to print and change the format to PDF. 🙂 good job on the kitchen.

I've written a couple of pages of the PDF so far, getting there... hopefully have something up by the end of the week! I also still plan to do the recipe software review, maybe I'll do it 'audio' style

This is such a great idea. I am a big mac guy and i also teach culinary arts to high schoolers. i use the term culinary arts very loosely but its a blast. Anyway, considering these two facts...... i Love this idea!
One other thing that is a use is the fact that you, on top of all your other great options, have a digital picture frame to display slide shows, or just a single piece of art that is easily changeable in your kitchen.
