so consumers will end up paying more because that orange đź’© is a pure idiot
Yes I have. Many . It can suck, but what gives us the divine right to think it’s just for other people. The whole world can’t work in marketing, sales or finance !Have you ever worked on a factory production line? I have and it really, really, sucks.
Only in cases where national security or economic emergencies can the president institute a tariff. In any other situation it is Congress.A president can implement tariffs on foreign countries, but can a president implement a tariff on an American company specifically? Like, can they single out a US company instead of a foreign country or foreign company?
now he's threatening samsung with tariffs as well...
That's a nonsensical analogy. Do you actually have anything your supermarket wants to buy? Try a little harder to make sense next time. Why do you think a trade imbalance is unfair?
I have a trade imbalance with my local supermarket, they've never bought anything from me, i'm always buying from them.
It’s been a few years since I saw comparative quotes. But labour rates in Texas used to be appx 10x of those in China for server assembly. Obviously I don’t know the fraction of the product cost made up by labour on an iPhone, but even at 25%, I doubt US manufacturing would be cheaper.exactly my thought - after you buy land, build factories, find and pay for parts shipment etc. and American workers make more than 25% more than foreign ones, if you can find enough, still cheaper to build in India than in the US.
Seems like the analogy was perfect since you got the point exactly. It's nonsensical to assume a trade deficit is bad without examining why it exists. That's a nonsensical analogy. Do you actually have anything your supermarket wants to buy? Try a little harder to make sense next time.
Someone change his diaper, he is giving the USA a rash.Trump has no plans for anything; he just gets bored and makes random proclamations to keep himself in the news cycle.
Well done. 🫶Seems like the analogy was perfect since you got the point exactly. It's nonsensical to assume a trade deficit is bad without examining why it exists.
Precedent for this style of policy implementation was set long before Trump and the R party were voted back in control. The ineffectiveness and rank partisanship of our perpetually and narrowly divided congress, a by-product of which is never-ending gridlock, is exactly why so few important policies can be codified into law anymore. As a result, the only way a president can implement what he was elected to do is (as Barack Obama famously said) with a phone and a pen, meaning Executive Orders.Unfortunately he doesn’t think anything through. I hate having a president who uses social media like one of the cast members on a housewife show. I wish we had a congress who actually did their job and stopped letting him do whatever he wants. The thing I don’t understand is why Trump republicans are setting a precedent that a democratic administration can also take advantage of if they wanted. Everyone regardless of political ideology should support checks and balances. America isn’t supposed to have a king
It takes decades to relocate a supply chain. China spent decades building theirs. The US doesn’t even have a factory that can machine enough screws for the iPhone, let alone everything else. It's happening right now. Hi, I'm a robotics engineer.
You have to stop watching Fox News! That's quite a broad claim you're making about more than 77 million voters. The few of his supporters you might know may be uninformed, but I can assure you there are quite a lot of us out here who overwhelmingly support this pro-American agenda. Any U.S. president has considerable leverage to incentivize American companies to bring their manufacturing back to the US. Prior to Trump, very few (if any) others have dared to wield it in such a way. If he is successful in these attempts to mitigate much of the unfair global trade imbalances, while also bringing a large portion of manufacturing back to the States, it's just one of the many reasons he will be seen as one of the most consequential presidents in this country's short history.

The arguments you use can easily be countered by a five year old.
Once again, it's quite amusing how some people will toss anyone who happens to disagree with them on a particular issue into their big "basket of deplorables." You don't know what news outlets I consume any more than I know how you keep yourself informed (or don't, as the case may be). I certainly don't mind debating the merits of the article here, but if this somehow spirals into some sort of progressive v. conservative pile-on, I can certainly hold my own. Especially with the likes of anyone hurling ad-hominem attacks. You have to stop watching Fox News!

Robotics will allow a shift of pretty much all production to the US eventually.
You're kidding right? Companies notoriously rip off the US to benefit other countries.I am assuming they may raise their prices in other countries to offset raising prices in the US. Just like Sony did with the PlayStation recently in Australia. Companies will screw other countries just to please the US.
You havnt been paying attention at all. Maybe try other news sources. No it won't.
Also where are you going to buy all the refined minerals to build the robots and the things with after you've pissed everyone off?
