I am rather disgusted to read this headline every single year. These are $1k+ phones and especially at this time with so called people having it “rough”. They still manage to buy it no matter what.

Well that is one hell of an update.

I got the 11 Pro Max also from a 7 Plus - it felt HUUUUGE. I can imagine the feeling you have now.

Congrats and may it use many years ahead in peace, smooth working and health!
And I have to give Apple credit for the quality of their products. Used the iPhone 7 Plus 8 to 10 hours a day in the past 5 years and 8 months. Not one issue!

Also owned/own multiple MacBooks and iPads. No issues! I’m not even buying Apple Care for the 14 Pro Max.

Some people can genuinely afford to upgrade every year. I'm in that camp but don't as it's pointless when improvements are so incremental now. Upgrade every 2-3 years and get a bigger upgrade over your previous phone

Of course you also get the people with little disposable income who buy there phones on expensive contracts and then complain that they can't afford food/bills.

Hopefully they don't sacrifice quality control when boosting production. Almost every Apple product I bought in the last 2 years has some sort of cosmetic defect out of the box. They really need to revisit their standards.

I cannot believe Apple didn't anticpate that the Pro model will sell more then the entry level model. I am still on the fence about upgrading my XR but I would only get the Pro.

Your carrier charges extra to access their 5G network!?!? Who is it?

Even the cheap MVNO's (Cricket, Mint Mobile, Ting Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, RedPocket, etc) don't charge extra to access their 5G network
Xfinity Mobile is one MVNO who charges more for 5G plans.
If one is surrounded by wifi, there's no need for the 5G plans as their regular or limited plans are decent enough for the average user.
For power users or those who have money, the 5G plans may be worth the upgrade.

I had the 14 PM and I just returned it yesterday. I only ordered the phone because the always on display was going to be useful to me as a night stand clock. That idea got wrecked once I realized their always on display isn't always on. Apple issued a statement of scenarios where the AOD would be turned off. One reason being it will turn off after xxx minutes/hours of user inactivity.

It sure would have been nice if Apple would have advertised this information before I ordered the device. Needless to say I went back to my 13 Pro Max and my wallet is $1200 lighter again.
You can buy a really nice bedside clock for $1200....🤷‍♂️

The 14 looks kind of meh to me especially with last year’s processor and all. If I upgrade I’ll get a 13 and save a little bit. That will at least pay for a case.

The standard 14 reminds me of the iPhone 5c. In both cases, Apple essentially repackaged last year’s phone and the tried to convince everyone it was a brand new phone. Consumers weren’t fooled in either case.
See iFixit video, it has totally new design inside.
little improvement in SOC compared to iPhone 13.
i think Apple is hitting the sealing in improving iPhone SOC processing power, so they should focus on improving power consumption.
and to be frank we don't need any more processing power in phones.

You would think by now Apple would have worked out the split in demand between the pro and non pro models.

Most people who pre order will always want the latest and greatest and especially this year with the iPhone 14 being basically the same as the iPhone 13 and the pro models getting most of the new features.

It gets to the point where it feels like they do it on purpose which is ludicrous as you’d think they’d want to sell as many as possible which raises the question how do they always get it so wrong?
Predicting demand for a product is like asking crystal ball, trust me i have been working in manufacturing for 15 years, marketing team was never right about their sales projections, i mean never.
we always have to qualify new lines or modify manufacturing lines to make different product because the product we thought will sell well won't sell well so we change manufacturing line to different product that sells well.
for medical devices it is difficult to qualify a line, it takes lot of validation and documentation.
With in few months they change projections again and we start qualification again.

Capitalism is winning.
people still complain that they can't afford rent/buy a home, inflation is high.
how older generation were able to afford to buy homes but younger generation can't afford to buy a home blah blah.
government is not doing anything to reduce home prices/rent/inflation.
if people keep buying at higher prices why would business reduce price ? they want more money.
Vote with your wallet people.

Let’s revisit in 6 months and see which 14’s are the best selling.

if its an hardware issue, this will be far worse than the butterfly keyboard..because mac dont sell like iphones and the internet will be loud about it. Dont underestimate the teenagers and young people that rely on tiktok instagram and such apps for the camera
Don't have long to wait

My 4g plan is around $35 USD per year, how much is your 5g plan to “get a good 14 pro max deal”?
I initially held off but found that a new 5G plan from AT&T was $10/month cheaper than my previous 3G/LTE plan and it included unlimited data. That alone was worth the upgrade.
