You need 32 GB why?
Probably some memory intensive work they plan on doing on it. Honestly, I would rather buy one with 32GB RAM now just for it to be more future proof. I wouldn't buy a new 8GB machine at all today, 16GB is the minimum I would recommend anyone buy with a new computer now. 32GB just means the machine will run better later on in its life after a few OS updates.

I hope not. Apple products are so popular and the demand is so high always, epspecially at launches. If there are component shortages, this would mean that every new MacBook is going to come with a longer and longer waiting time before we can land our hands on one.

I want to get one some day but until they are reliably available in stores, then I’m in no hurry. It’s crazy that this system was released in 2020 but may not be “easy to buy” until late 2022 or early 2023. Game development on these new consoles has also been pushed back for years…

From this they are predicting shortages to "coincide with the capacity expansion." Sounds like FUD.

A rough ride ahead for companies manufacturing in China. Component shortages, limited electrical power, and the emerging tang ping ethic among workers. Reaping what they sowed.

Let’s see, bootcamp and Windows taken away, EGPU support gone with use of a high end video card, discreet video and memory going away and now a system shortage. Sounds like the new MacBook Pro 16 is going to be great. You might as well get a Chromebook Linux with a high end AMD or a Intel chip and a PS5/Xbox X.
eGPU "support" is still there just we don't have any driver for the card.
Apple may explicitly disable the feature on M1 when the driver comes out for stability reasons but nothing stops them from enabling eGPU for Apple Silicon.

And we all knows macOS isn't good for gaming. eGPU is mainly for compute.

Was hoping to see the new Macbook Air early to mid next year. Now it looks like second half of next year. Hopefully shortage of parts does not delay it any further.

I bought a Mac Mini in the spring and was considering a MacBook Air early next year. So far the M1 works great for my needs, but I haven’t gotten into the audio work I do about once a year. However, I’m guessing that Logic Pro will work just fine on the M1 with 16GB, even on the Air. But you now how it is. Should I buy the M1 early next year or wait for the fancy new redesign later in 2022, hoping that the rumor is correct? *sigh* This is the kind of problem you always have to deal with when buying Apple stuff. :)

Apple did not even release the new Macbooks and they are already speculating that they will be cutting in half?

I guess they have nothing interesting to publish...

They sold a bunch of computers to those who needed upgrades for a long long time and were waiting for something worth the entry price. Now all those people no longer need to buy new systems so the number of those who will may end up dropping the levels before the M1 was introduced. Blaming it on shortages is convenient, but if there were no shortages something like this was bound to happen. Its like if Apple came out with an iPad that could run Mac OS and was priced below the entry price of a Mac and then sales declined for several products this all in one could replace. They would make up some excuse but that wouldn't be completely honest either. Those who are holding out for new systems are those waiting for apples pro line to be updated. They'll need to come out with those first to get another spike in sales. But after those are released and an updated MacBook Air comes out, they'll have to ride that wave till it dries up because if the base model Macs are good enough its going to be hard to sell them in growing numbers without competing reasons or very creative financing like they do with iPhones.

"Shipments to Be Cut in First Half of 2022"

Not "cut in half"

Another so called component shortages, had no troubles getting a iPad and iPhone on launch day.

Didn’t apple supposedly stock up on chips before this component shortages hit.
Right, shutting the world down for over a year and artificially constraining electricity use in industry should not have any real impact to supply chains. Apple just needs to release the supply from their big warehouse of components.

Everyone advocating this top down control crap... gonna get it good and hard.
