Please just make inexpensive Apple watches that support messaging/gps/calling that my kids can use to get a hold of us that can be activated without needing to be tied to a phone.

Can you just put one of these things in your car and be able to track it if it is stolen? Cool

Also I'm figuring (hoping) the new phones act as one of these too. Would like to know pretty precisely where my phone is when i lose it. I've always wondered why Apple never implemented something using Hey Siri where if I know my phone is around the house somewhere I could say "Hey Siri where is my phone?" and my phone responds something like, "Hi John, I'm over here!" Essentually serve the same purpose and the pinging you can do from your watch (which I use very frequently) but this would be way easier and personable. You know, more like an actual personal assistant like Siri is marketed as.

Hmm, looks familiar :D

I'm almost certain Admin will delete this soon enough...

You could have your kid/spouse swallow one every day or two, in case you lose him/her

Tags or pucks?

Remember Apple’s ‘puck’ mouse? And remember how Steve Jobs (a omg others) liked Wayne Gretzsky’s quote:

“I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been.”

Now you can visualise that quote more effectively with very own your own commemorative plate, puck! And when your items go missing, you can track them to see not only where they have been, but where are they are now... and be like Wayne, skate to where the puck will be!* :p :D

*Remember to call law enforcement if puck ends up in criminal mastermind locations.

This sounds way more useful than I thought it would be. Maybe I’ll get some. But the things I tend to lose most are obscure tools that I only need for a certain job. Might be a good idea to attach these or sew them into my kids favorite dolls or stuffed animals because that is a common issue at bedtime every day. Hopefully they are tiny and come with multiple ways to attach (adhesive, loops, etc).

Hi all,

if i'm being totally honest, i never completely understood, how the whole Tile things are supposed to work. As far as i understand, the tiles themselves do not have any location functionality, it is just an object that is linked to your mobile. As soon as the mobile loses contact to the tile-thing it offers the "last-known-coordinates" that the mobile phone identified.

Now would it be possible to use them as a device to track down a "moving" object? For example if i put one of these somewhere hidden in my car and it gets stolen - would i be able to track the car? What if the thieves would be so stupid and carry an iphone with them? Could i activate the "lost" (i.e. "stolen") mode and the thieves iphones would deliver the location through the crowd search?

This would be tempting :)

I know this is just an artist rendering, but I really hope this isn't what they look like... too roundy.
exactly. how do you affix this to anything w/o any visible hook/loop? also, i can't judge the size, but having a tiny apple logo makes no sense, so based on this observation, the render depicts trackers twice the size of a tile.

I know that these are “just” trackers, but I feel like Apple will take what Tile have done and make it a lot better.

I will buy a few of these if they are not tied to some expensive subscription service.

That's pretty much exactly what Apple does. They bring something out 5 years after the fact that is improved, but you've still been waiting five years.

Don't people use these things for like luggage, keys and such? Wifi isn't really going to help them, in that case.

I already use it this way. I typically say “Hey Siri, I see a little silhouette of a man” and she continues with the lyrics until I find my phone. What fascinates me is my phone responds to me but not my wife’s phone, even when they are essentially beside earth other. I have tested Siri’s ability to differentiate voices under several circumstances and I am impressed. In any case, this is far more fun than just pinging my phone with my Apple Watch.

Lately I have started using Siri more and am often surprised how useful it is; I very much remember when it wasn’t and I stopped even trying to use it for a few years. It’s listening skills definitely still need improvement.

Really? Are people that disorganized? Jeez. I've always thought of "tiles" and the likes as those 80s keyring-gadgets that beeped when you whistled. Fun for 5 minutes, then just annoying.
We have a fairly big house, like 75ft long and I never have to search stuff for long, but obviously, people live in big castles where things gets lost.

High resolution UWB technology is neat!

Looking forward to tying this into my home automation system.
