I would hold out for this 2023 iPhone if I only knew that the smaller Pro model were getting under display Face ID. If it’s only coming to the larger model, that’s a non starter for me. Now it will be hard to decide where to wait for the iPhone 14 (2022) or 15 (2023).

We've been waiting for "Under Display Touch ID" for four years. I guess we can wait a few more years for this. I've upgraded from a 7 to a 12 last year, and after six months, I wouldn't say Face ID is better or worse than Touch ID. Let's not pretend Touch ID was perfect, but I'd love to have a device that has both, which presumably increases the success of unlocking. My phone is in my jeans pocket most of the time, so with the iPhone 7, I got used to placing my thumb on the home button while grabbing it. It would be cool if Face ID would kick in when Touch ID fails.
I loved Samsung's rear touch sensor. My muscle-memory developed quickly to the point where my device was unlocked by the time I pulled it out of my pocket and turned it to face me.

I have a work-issued 12 Pro now, and unlocking speed is a HUGE downgrade.

I still prefer Apple's ecosystem and the device is fine, but the disadvantages are glaring in light of my recent switch, and I hate that many of them are self-inflicted by Apple.

My assumption has always been that the Notch was added on purpose sort of, to easily spot an iPhone outside and subconsciously influence people (substitute of losing the home button). Just like the toothbrush sticks on the initial AirPods. "Bad Memes are also marketing"

seems like I won’t be upgrading my Xs Max for another few years.

I’m sick and tired of Face ID.
I want under display touch ID,much more zoom and Macro camera ,not just casual, selfie camera with more megapixels and refinements.

Until then,I won’t be interested in any iPhone.

Apple are developing an iPhone that can turn into a helicopter, they're aiming for 2035, they just need to iron out a few details... well most of the details actually. Can I be an Apple leaker now?

Periscope lens, No Notch, UnderScreen Touch ID, all in 2023?

Sounds too good to be true. I would expect Apple to spread these out to two release.

honestly can we just have Touch ID back? I’m sick of the Face ID not working with my mask on. Apple Pay should work within 1 sec now it takes a minute having to unlock my phone first with passcode and then it asks for my passcode again for the actual transaction. Poor form Apple.

This year's phone over next year unless you're a yearly upgrader. No way I'm buying a phone with a notch or a punch hole and then one year later a full screen phone comes out.

There's no need to come up with an expensive solution like putting Face ID under the display. Instead, save money by employing the best-available solution: Bring back the beloved bezel! Click the link below for details:

Guess it’s Kuo’s day today, Kudos to Kuo.

Edit - Kuo, please give us some MacBook news too :)
Yea but last month he said under display finger print reader, guy is all over the place.
I like how people call him a well respected apple analyst. I will give him credit I think he hit the nail on the head with the contact lenses in 2040.
I am fairly confident no financial analyst listen to a word he says.

I have no inclination to upgrade from my XsMax until the notch is gone. Honestly it's not rocket science, make the bezel a little bit bigger and put the reduced sized Face ID in that slot.

kuo issues are more timelines not what comes though. he did say under display fingerprint yeah nothing has changed here? he never said Face ID was going.

Hope the sensor wont be in the very bottom edge, but a bit centered. As is the place were the thumb is in large divices

I’m very excited for the periscope lens. I’m skeptical that Apple will make so many changes to the notch so quickly: shrink(2021) -> hole punch(2022) -> under display(2023). That being said I hope this is true.
I'm afraid you are right, despite all my respect for Kuo

But experts on MacRumours told me that the notch was there for branding purposes. Funny how it was in fact a technological limitation after all (as said at the time) and people were falling for the usual Appleogetics.
Do you seriously believe anyone with an IQ over 10 really thought that Apple won't move to notchless when the technology is ready?

I jumped froma 7+ to 11 Pro Max, and I miss Touch ID. I prefer it over Face ID. Both being present would be perfect.

No touch ID until 2023? Looks like I'll keep soldiering on with a 6S. The pandemic mask really screws up a key piece of technology for Apple phones.
