Japan Display will supply OLED displays for new Apple Watch Series 5 models slated to launch in the second half of 2019, according to the latest prediction from well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a research note with TF International Securities shared with Chinese media outlets today, Kuo forecasted that Japan Display will gradually increase its proportion of OLED display orders for the Apple Watch, starting with 15-20 percent of orders in 2019 and reaching 70-80 percent in 2021.

Kuo believes that Apple will also gradually increase the proportion of LG's supply of OLED displays for iPhones, and tap Chinese manufacturer BOE as an additional supplier, in a bid to diversify its supply chain.

Apple Watch Series 5 models will likely be unveiled next month alongside a trio of new iPhones. This would hardly be a surprise, as Series 1 through Series 4 models all launched in September, but specific rumors about Series 5 models have actually been relatively quiet, so this is nice reassurance.

For example, Kuo previously said a "new ceramic casing design" would be "added" to the Apple Watch lineup, but he did not explicitly mention Series 5 models. Reuters also reported that Japan Display would begin supplying OLED displays for the Apple Watch, but likewise did not specify Series 5 models.

Looking farther ahead, rumors suggest that Apple Watch Series 6 models will adopt MicroLED displays in 2020.

So what else could they add? Full independence of the iphone...that might get me. My hold up has been I will need to get an iphone as well and trying to hold onto my current phone a bit longer.

I know there has been talk of sleep features as well, but other than what's mentioned above not sure what else might be new

Well damn, I was hoping for the S 5 in 2020.

But if true well I would like to see

1:802.11 AC for WiFi update
2: Ability to transfer music over WiFi and not Bluetooth
3: Improved Celluar connectivity
4: Increased storage
5: Overall battery improved
6; Walki-Talkie update

I wish Apple would allow me to connect an Apple Watch to an iPad. My 9 year old daughter would love an Apple Watch. It would be great for her b3cause of some heath concerns and activity monitoring. Plus all the cool factors. She doesn’t have a phone yet but she does have an iPad with unlimited data. If I could connect a watch to her iPad, well that would be great. I could pass down a watch to her.

I’ve been saying this since day 1.

three different displays going into an iPhone model from three different manufacturers = yellowgate all over again

Well it's looking like there will only be a processor bump to s5 and some new bands. The microleds won't be ready till the 6 and a ceramic case is just not worth the cost when you can get the space black diamond coating for no extra charge.

Series 4 is damn near perfect. My next upgrade will likely be Series 6 with the new MicroLED display. Maybe 6 will finally have more battery life.

I do hope we get another green color band. Something similar to the Jets new green uniforms.
