Have to agree here, but certainly don’t blame Apple, as you mention. They could absolutely make many of their features work on older hardware (The quality, due to stingy hardware in areas, may be questionable)but they are a key differentiator to get people into their ecosystem at a lower cost and work them up. Good business model in my eyes.

Totally makes sense as a business model. My original reply was to someone who posted besides a ceramic model what would warrant an S5 release and my hypothesis was an apple made sleep app that Apple would only allow on the S5 that likely could work on older models but Apple wouldn’t make it for older models as they often do with there products. In part to get people to buy new models. It’s not rocket science and makes sense if your the business but a little annoying if you’re a consumer who isn’t ready or can afford to upgrade right away. Wasn’t really complaining just making a point and guess at the next big feature on the next series would be.

Then apparently two people thought that was an idiotic conspiracy theory even though Apple has track record of doing this to promote new products.

Since I’m coming from series 3, I welcome series 5. Pass my AW to my son.
The only thing I wished was Apple allowing outside developers to create watch faces. It’s a software issue that I not sure why Apple won’t open that door.

Understand, yea I didn’t read through all that. Sure, they need to differentiate somehow and things like that are an easy way to do so. I get it being annoying, but I don’t blame Apple for taking this approach. They are a business after all. It’s something I tend to notice a lot on this site (not necessarily saying from you). Kind of an expectation for Apple to do right by the consumer instead of doing right by Apple. They don’t need to be mutually exclusive, but I feel that Apple is always going to put business first. I’m okay with that.

Yea, no conspiracy, just business. At least that’s how I see it.

This is the biggest shortcoming of the watch for me (coming from a traditional Eco-Drive watch that I have not charged once in nearly 15 years).

You can say that about any smart watch if you're comparing it to an eco-drive though...

I want a bigger Apple Watch, like a 50mm or bigger, cause the 44mm is ruining my masculinity.......

If one is worried about masculinity, pretty sure they wouldn't be wearing a square watch...

I'm actually expecting Apple to discontinue the Series 4 when the Series 5 comes out, and continue to offer the Series 3 as the lower-priced option, possibly giving it a processor boost to help keep it current.

The reason I think this is if the Series 5 is only an incremental upgrade, Apple won't want a cheaper Series 4 cannibalizing sales of the newer model. This could happen if there is a widespread perception that the S4 is still good enough and is priced more attractively than the S5.
Very likely but other retailers will have stock they will want to shift thus the inevitable, but slow, price drop.

Onboard for a 50mm version. As long as they offer a matching steel strap.

Unless they are doing something with more medical functionality, smaller silicon for better battery life, sleeping possibly? I honestly can't think of anything else. Adding a camera to it also seems unlikely and cumbersome if they did
I hope a camera stays far away from the watch. gimmicky feature IMO since new cameras is what seems to be the focal point of every new phone release.

Actually, I’m a series 3 owner and I’m content with it. Now that I know the S5 will be a minimal upgrade it’s a hard pass for me.

Its amazing what the extra screen size adds. I jumped from a S0 to a S3, but goofed and didn't get LTE, so when I was offered a deal from Verizon, I switched to a S4 LTE.

My better half still has a S3 LTE and looking at that watch, wow, the screen looks so little. We have some 38mm's in the family too, I don't know how they can see anything on them. Maybe I'm blind.

A fingerprint sensor please!! yes right on the side button. ffs i'm tired of typing pin codes on screen to unlock

You should only have to enter your pin once a day (or as many days as you can get out of a charge), as the watch should detect that it has not left your wrist. If you have to do it more often, you are either wearing your watch too loosely (meaning it loses contact and thinks it has been taken off) or you have something with your skin (could be a tattoo, skin tone, etc.) that makes it think it is not on all the time.

Entering my pin once a day seems pretty reasonable.

Beyond a ceramic case, what else would there be to merit a Series 5 release? More storage? A processor bump? The Series 4 seems to already hit the sweet spot.

Always-on display would be great (even if it just used the power reserve display when "off"). But otherwise I agree, not much really. Just wish they'd improve the software.

Can you sell me on the cellular version? I’ve always been curious but nobody I know has one.
Coinvience although don't expect it to replace your phone. Great for when you forget your phone in the house on a walk outside or something.

Auto calls to 911 after a fall, or in a car accident where you can’t reach your phone (search the net for stories about this). I have not been able to verify, but it is my understanding that one can call 911 even if one does not have service plan on a GSM device. I also like it for walkie-talkie mode when I am in places like the pool or water park where I do not have my phone with me.

I’m confused about why this is news. Aren’t Apple watches already OLED?
