How do you do at mornings? Does the battery last all day until the “night charge”?
Truthfully I ususually have ~50% left in the evening (10pm or so) when I put it on the charger. Put it back on before sleep and I still have more than 90% in the morning. Battery life is vastly better than my series 2.

I'm actually expecting Apple to discontinue the Series 4 when the Series 5 comes out, and continue to offer the Series 3 as the lower-priced option, possibly giving it a processor boost to help keep it current.

The reason I think this is if the Series 5 is only an incremental upgrade, Apple won't want a cheaper Series 4 cannibalizing sales of the newer model. This could happen if there is a widespread perception that the S4 is still good enough and is priced more attractively than the S5.
I suppose it might depend on how well the series 3 runs the latest version of WatchOS. My series 2 is functional but it became way less responsive with successive WatchOS versions. I’ve never used a series 3 though to see how much better they are than the 2.

Oh give up the idiotic conspiracy theories. If you want a sleep tracker app right now, get AutoSleep from Tantissa.
Costs $2, works like a charm, integrates with all of Apple ecosystem include Health.app

It could work better if the next aWatch had a body temperature sensor (and that may be what's delaying Apple's sleep tracking app) but there's no conspiracy by Apple to prevent sleep tracking on your existing watch.

A) idiotic conspiracy theory? Watch your tone please. I don’t appreciate my thoughts being referred to as “idiotic”. Especially when there have been several instances where Apple doesn’t allow features on older gen devices to sell a newly released one.

B. I’m aware there are other sleep tracking devices. But if Apple makes a better one I’d like to be able to use that one on my S3.

C. I never said you wouldn’t still be able to use 3rd sleep party apps. Don’t know you assumed I meant that from not being able to use Apples sleep app on older devices . People would not take kindly to not being able to use any sleep tracking app whatsoever and it would clearly violate competition laws.

A fingerprint sensor please!! yes right on the side button. ffs i'm tired of typing pin codes on screen to unlock

Yes! That's my top ask, but under the screen, though I don't expect it for a bit. Or FaceID. Or some additional biometrics validation. I'd like to have more security into my Apple Watch. I use my Apple Watch for payments, plus I'd like to use it more for authentication situations.

Also Series 0 doesn't integrate with iOS 12 and up. I made it a point to unload my wife's AW S0 before the iPhone XS & XR models came out.

My Apple Watch A1554 - 1st Gen, aka Series 0 - talks "fine" with my iPhone 8. It is not a speed demon, but I use it every day.

Can you sell me on the cellular version? I’ve always been curious but nobody I know has one.
I have one, but only because there was no non-cellular Stainless Steel series 4.

If I was a) an Apple Music subscriber and b) a wireless headphone user like airpods or Powerbeats Pro, it would be pretty slick to stream directly to the watch and be able to leave the phone behind when exercising or walking or whatever. I am neither of those two, however, and don’t need to be available so much as to be reachable on my watch when I don’t have my phone.

I’d be more tempted if it weren’t so expensive to put my watch on my plan. $10+ taxes and fees and such. Too much.

Beyond a ceramic case, what else would there be to merit a Series 5 release? More storage? A processor bump? The Series 4 seems to already hit the sweet spot.

That's what people said about the Series 3 last year :p

I honestly see no reason to upgrade my Apple Watch annually. I have the Series 4 Currently. But I had the First Gen, then then Series 2, and now the 4. so I will wait till at least the S6 next year.

Series 0 to Series 3 seems to be the initial adoption years where there is a lot of progress made each year for processor speed and health features, similar to the progress from the iPhone 2G to the 4. I think from Series 4 onward Apple will start targeting a 2 or 3 years upgrade cycle.

Apple Watch Series 5 looks to be a very minor upgrade (CPU and other incremental upgrades), which means... new color(s) and bands.
New watch faces would be nice as well.

I wish Apple would allow me to connect an Apple Watch to an iPad. My 9 year old daughter would love an Apple Watch. It would be great for her b3cause of some heath concerns and activity monitoring. Plus all the cool factors. She doesn’t have a phone yet but she does have an iPad with unlimited data. If I could connect a watch to her iPad, well that would be great. I could pass down a watch to her.
And just like Disney. Into perpetuity.

There have been several instances where YOU CLAIM that Apple doesn’t allow features on older gen devices to sell a newly released one...

That is the part that rankles -- your insistence that you know WHY Apple made particular decisions, and your insistence in sticking with your interpretations even when alternatives are presented. For example, I've told you that if/when Apple provides their sleep tracker it may well be keyed into a body temperature sensor, since a slight dip in body temperature is one of the more reliable signs that a person really is asleep (as opposed to just very still and relaxed).

And this fantasy of a conspiracy theory IS unrealistic. For one it flies in the face of the fact that Apple continues to sell those older devices...

Apple continues to sell old devices because its more profitable to do so vs. recycle. I'd be curious to know what features Apple held back from older devices simply because the could vs. because the older device did not have the electronics to support it.

If something was held back simply because of fiat, wouldn't at least at some point at least one current or former Apple engineer leak this ('I was instructed to leave out that feature even though it worked fine') to the public? If this happens often enough, at some point somebody would talk.

What is much more likely is that making a specific feature work on older devices might require significant optimisation work and that money simply wasn't invested.

Umm ya because not everyone in everyone in every market can afford the latest and greatest higher price point version. You don’t think Animoji’s could work on older devices? Maybe not as accurate but they could work. There have been many instances Apples has held back features on older devices that you could then jailbreak your phone to get in the past as well.

But yeah they would rather up-sell you to their newest and more expensive models if they can make more sales revenue and margin. But they also don’t want to ignore large markets that can’t afford the top of the line new release either. So ya they sell older cheaper models. But people who can afford the high end are less likely to upgrade without new features they can’t get on their current device.

Go take a couple business classes and maybe this will sink in.

An Apple developer us told to do x or y, they are not advised as to why. Most likely features are held back from older models because their design cannot handle those new features.

Many works for me. Call me many when I’m opposite of smart. H

Have to agree here, but certainly don’t blame Apple, as you mention. They could absolutely make many of their features work on older hardware (The quality, due to stingy hardware in areas, may be questionable)but they are a key differentiator to get people into their ecosystem at a lower cost and work them up. Good business model in my eyes.
