Think of the morale of the employees on Project Titan.

They've spent 5-10 years on a project with nothing to show for it.

I don't understand the goal of a supposed Apple Car anyway. Wouldn't they basically do what Tesla already does? In any case they could purchase Tesla and everyone would believe they're sitting in an Apple Car already, they're so similar design wise.
Nah, too many design shortcuts and dumb decisions.

You seriously think Musk would let anybody buy Tesla?

I don't understand why Apple would want to get into the car business anyway. Developing car software, maybe. But an actual car company, I don't get it. Why would they want to deal with service, recalls, crash testing, dealerships, lemon laws, labor issues and more? Makes no sense.

They probably just used some prototype to test CarPlay on, with no intention of ever creating a car. Keeping it secret so that rumors wouldn’t cause stock fluctuations, and it leaked.

Could it be that they were developing prototypes just to get a better understanding and to demonstrate the possible with CarPlay features and the whole Apple Car was just... 'rumours'?

I have to say, I think a self driving car is largely an AI problem, specifically in computer vision. With the large strides AI is making, that could happen in 5-10 years. But will Apple be the company to do it? They don’t exactly have leadership in the AI field at the moment.

Probably because IT WAS NEVER HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE
I agree with this. If Apple got into automobile manufacturing, it would only upset their automobile partnerships. Apple doesn't need to make an overpriced car. They just need to get more manufactures onboard with supporting CarPlay.

Let's file this one under the same cabinet that holds the designs for the Apple TV set. I don't mean the set top box, but the actual TV set that was rumored for years. I don't think it makes sense for Apple to build a car, either on their own or with manufacturing partners. I think it makes a lot of sense for Apple to have a car software platform. Let's see the inroads (pun intended) Apple can do with future generations of Carplay and any other car related technologies. I think a full car is a bit of a pipe dream, would we buy the car at the Apple Store, Apple car dealership?

Until people try to connect their iPhone to it using CarPlay

Did anyone really *want* an Apple car?

Seriously?

Isn't what everyone really wants is just to have whatever phone they have work better with any car they happen to find themselves in...

I mean the way Apple designs their devices these days, I'd hate to see what I've have to do to replace a brake light on an Apple Car.. or a headlight.. or a windshield wiper..

Sorry, that's not an Apple Authorized Wiper! UNAUTHORIZED WIPER!!!!! Your car is now bricked to only going 5mph and only in reverse!

We've detected that you're driving in the rain. You're AppleCar Coverage doesn't cover repairs after the car has gotten wet, would you like to add AppleCar+Rain Coverage?

I'm sorry, you spilled coffee on the iSeat, your drivetrain warranty is now void.

Meh. No thanks.

Happy if this money pit of a project dies and its corpse is fired ... directly into the sun.

Apple spends ALOT of time, money, and research into areas that no one ever knows about and a lot end up in a dead end. It is called R&D and with the money Apple has earned it is a great position to be in. Try all sorts of things and see what pans out. Not really surprised.

They should buy out Lucid. They are going bankrupt very soon so they will be very happy to sell
Lucid has $6.25 billion in cash on hand as of June 30, 2023. They're not going bankrupt any time soon.

If Lucid needs more money, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will buy more Lucid shares. They already own almost 2/3 of Lucid. They could easily take Lucid private.

They're not going to let their $9 billion investment in Lucid go up in smoke.

Just copy what the Chinese companies are doing, they have much clear vision than you, Apple…

They have time. Until the American civil infrastructure can accommodate EVs, they will fail to gain wide traction. We have a massive deficit of charging stations.

Could be reusing a lot of existing infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen ICE... But the EV cultists prefer to ignore just how toxic battery manufacturing is to the environment and the fact that most of the electricity used to charge EVs comes from ... fossil fuels...

SMFH

I don't mind the concept of EVs.. instant torque can be fun.. but it's limitations, especially in very hot and very cold environments, along with the downsides listed above should be more than enough for the industry to not be putting all it's eggs in the EV basket...

Sadly?

Not surprised he has no clue basically, because we’ve heard nothing but endless rumours, not ONE shred of evidence any car was being made. I don’t think it ever existed, sure they may be looking into AI for cars, selling systems for them, but not an actual whole car IMO.
All we have ever seen is supposed test SUV’s for Apples self driving tech, and stories of employees leaving and being hired and leaving and being hired..
