I hope Trump bans it, just for another slap on Apples face. I’m typing this from a iP11ProPlus, and it feels so bad, like holding a hot piece of metal, that i want let fall.
I have tons of Chinese friends here in Sweden. All of them rely on WeChat, and would go to Android the second WeChat disappear.
Why would there be a worldwide ban though? Why the hell would Trump decide which I apps I can use in Sweden?
Apple is a US company and thus have to comply with US law in all its operations globally or face legal action. That is not new, all US companies face the same issue.I have tons of Chinese friends here in Sweden. All of them rely on WeChat, and would go to Android the second WeChat disappear.

Twitter is a US company so a foreign country's ban would not impact its otehr operations.not quite sure whether the executive order from mr. used car salesman (current leader of the free world they say) has the power and legitimacy to affect the “non free world”. the same way ban on twitter by PRC doesn’t apply to US, does it?
30% is very optimistic. Make that 100%. A smartphone without WeChat is as useful as a dumbphone in China.
I find it hard to believe Trump would take the ban international. I mean who knows what that unstable dude will do but his main focus SHOULD be with what’s going on in his own country.
You have hit the nail on the head there. With 1B+ users (I assume mostly in China and SE Asia) - a number over 3X total US population, that horse has left the barn, that ship has sailed, the train has left the station - and that's where we are with the idea to strangle? WeChat? LOL.Any phone without having the option to download WeChat sold in China would be useless. Anyone visiting China who will interact with the Chinese or do business there will find WeChat really useful.
If we could use WeChat here in the west like it is used in China, it would blow FB, Apple Pay, Instagram et al out of the water.
That's not that unusual. The EU expected US companies storing EU citizen data on US servers to comply with the GDPR, an dlater ruled US data storage did not comply.President from X country forbidding apps in Y country- that sounds stupid and impossible...but then I remembered country Y dictates entertainment made in country X, so I guess it is not that impossible..
The play store is not the only way to install applications in android. But wouldn’t google have to remove it too? If the only two players stop servicing the same app I don’t see how that would hurt any single one of them
The President of U.S. is like an imbecile that crying to cease the domestic company from working with another region. Ironically, it violated the philosophy and Americans value that stood up for liberty, trust, equality in the economy.
There are lots of younger, talented and genius workforce that supposed to be running as president to bring peace and positive vibe to the country instead of a president with obesity that just want to wreak havoc on the economy.
As a European, I dare to say most of the things in your list remind me of the US, not China… Compared to the US and Russia, China's foreign policy is extremely low-profile. When is the last time China got involved in a major war, or tried to overthrow a country's government? China hardly cares about Palestine, Ukraine, or Syria; it only cares about China. Of course, from a Chinese perspective, China includes Taiwan, which not everyone will agree with here. And why do we need to cater to China? They‘re an evil nation, with an evil government. They‘ve been occupying territory for decades, they‘ve been bullying half the globe, and they‘ve been blackmailing governments and consumers around the world. Let‘s just cut ties with China, count our losses and move on. Honestly, who gives a crap - it‘s probably better like that in the long run.
You’ve misspelled how that country is spelled. It’s U-S-A.And why do we need to cater to China? They‘re an evil nation, with an evil government. Do you realize that Apple is a company and its purpose is to make profit? Apple will do anything to keep the chinese market.
American government can do whatever to America, dont involve ROW?Which is why it’s important the government makes decisions that aren’t purely based on profits but rather protecting / strengthening its citizens.

Not major but India has sopme concerns about Chinese military actions...When is the last time China got involved in a major war,
or tried to overthrow a country's government? China hardly cares about Palestine, Ukraine, or Syria; it only cares about China.
That flies in the face of Capitalism though. It’s the guiding star for pretty much the entire planet, nation-states take a back seat to the demands of the almighty economy.Which is why it’s important the government makes decisions that aren’t purely based on profits but rather protecting / strengthening its citizens.
