What are people doing that they "need" WiFi6e on an iPhone? Just curious, because nothing I do (or really hear people complain about) requires much more than WiFi5 speed(let alone WiFi6 which isn't much different than 5).

Are internet providers providing the bandwidth to homes that take advantage of 6e?
What are they doing? They are doing Apple's new VR headset that doesn't require wires to work better than Quest.

I have the blue AirPods Max. It will be better if Apple designs the AR/VR headset to look cool with AirPods Max.

But the devices will work almost as well with Wi-Fi 6.

The Wi-Fi 6E is only significantly beneficial over plain 6 when there is considerable spectrum crowding.
6 by itself is a solid improvement over previous versions of Wi-Fi.
Consider most of us live in crowded apartment/condo buildings, it will make a HUGE difference
Exactly! I allow my router to select the best band per device and often it‘s the 2.4GHz spectrum. And, yes, I think, the reason is congestion/interference because I have about 20 networks in range.

I was in the same boat up until a year ago when we moved. Got fiber and changed to Orbi mesh when the Airport Extremes couldn't cover the house. It's been rock solid ever since. ?
I do still have my Airport Express in the mix for one reason: audio output.
My 3rd Orib satellite sits in the studio on the back of the property. I tether the Express to the Orbi via CAT-5 and then send the Express audio out to my 16-channel Mackie mixer. This allows me (or guests) to wirelessly and effortlessly shoot Apple Music to the studio's sound system. Being able to change the mix from the fire pit is kinda dope. ?

Yes, with my direct fiber connection plus a Netgear 6e mesh system I’m ready.

I’m all for this mixed reality headset but I think if apple is going to do it they need to let developers know soon. Or there’s gonna be a $2000+ headset with no content.
I’m guessing announcement in 2022 and release in 2023 to give time for developers. But they might be developing a framework to easily port existing apps over from iOS and iPadOS — in which case they will have millions of apps already available.

Only that would excite me is moving the front camera to under screen. No notches and punch holes. Thank you.

I have quite a few WiFi 6 capable client devices at home (including Apple) so I upgraded to WiFi 6 capable router last week. But can someone explain to me WiFi 6E? I think most countries, including EU haven’t adopted 6E yet. With WiFi 7 release around the corner in 2024 will 6E have enough time to take off and see mainstream adoption as it will be quickly superseded by WiFi 7? Or am I missing something?

Technically, even 802.11ac can handle gigabit Internet connections (especially if you’re in a home that has no or few other Wi-Fi networks encroaching). For example, \/ are Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 routers that can transmit 1200+ Mbps on the 5GHz band.

Most people here don’t need the extra speed.

…And needing 5G cellular for YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok.

Anyway… Let them have their fun. :)

Most developed countries including the U.S., China, Korea, etc. have already enabled access to the 6 GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi 6E. Wi-Fi 7 builds on 6E and uses the same 6 GHz spectrum. 6E is a big jump compared to 7.

Notch is coming back next year so Apple can squeeze a few more dollars out of the design. That is when the fanbase screams become more intense for a design change which will occur iPhone 15. Anyone willing to take up that bet?

I love how these rumor posts always feature mockups of iPhones without notches.
I know some people don’t believe the notch is going away and others think we’re really getting a punch hole (unlikely in my opinion). I think a small pill-shaped cutout would be the best solution which would only require a little more miniaturization of the FaceID components. Either that or fit it into the top bezel.

So what will Apple do to differentiate the iPhone 14/14 Pro from the 13? A display that’s 20 percent bigger, a stronger screen and it charges faster (Apple Watch S7 reference by the way)? No but really, what can Apple pull out of their bag of tricks to make it look different enough to give iPhone 11/12 owners a reason to upgrade. You know they’re working on something. Maybe a pill-shaped cutout to replace the notch.

I'm still rolling with a Wifi 5 Eero system for now.

Same for me.

I went down the usual path to get there... ISP router, cheap Netgear router, cheap TP-Link router... but I finally settled on an Eero system. It works great!

If this system dies... of course I'll replace it with whatever the new standard is. But I don't, personally, have a need to replace it with 6 or 6E until then.

Uhhh **** you didnt even make it through reading the headline?
Headsets, vr, high bandwidth and low latency.
Only WiFi 6e doesn’t really provide that. It provides WiFi 6 access to less congested bands. Which is a Good Thing, and quite significant in certain settings, but doesn’t do much outside that.
I had hoped they would use 802.11ay for their headset, (60GHz band, more than an order of magnitude higher bandwidth), and won’t let go of that hope until the thing is launched.

Apple didn't do much to differentiate from the 12 to the 14 looks wise. The notch is iconic for Apple as folks recognize it. Going to a hole punch design brings confusion for consumers shopping for the newest iPhone.

This. People complained about bezels, then when Apple implements the notch to reduce the bezel, they're furious. Just make the bezel bigger! Those screen wings around the bezel are of little use.
