Interesting we get this announcement after Samsung mentioned they'll support Wifi 7 with their new phones. We have both Apple and Android, here. One thing that is very clear is that the Apple phones do not have the same upload/download capability over distance. For whatever reason, our Apple devices drop off in up/download speeds very quickly, while Samsung (the only Androids we own) do not. It's quite drastic, actually. This was verified at work, as well. My coworkers were shocked to see their top-end tablets and IPhone 13 Pros (nobody has the 14 here) struggling at 50mbps download while my S21 is pulling 10x that speed, at a distance from the router. In fact, it was still capable of almost a gigabit speeds, at times. This narrows somewhat as you move closer to the router, but it's no contest, really. Modems are the one area where Apple seriously needs an upgrade. It's holding everything else back.

It would be nice if Apple splash into the router market again, the one which would be integrated with HomeKit and fast/realible, with possibly some cool features..
Instant buy
It’s a commodity market. Apple generally doesn’t play in those. I wonder how long Apple intends to sell the Studio Display, given that Samsung and Dell are entering the 5K display market.

Your aren’t wrong as to that being the reason why, but apple’s #1 reason their products sell is because of eco-system. They could give some really great integration like how they used to with time machine. But alas the apple of today is too busy squabbling over Pennies rather than do something to strengthen its position.

I might be the minority here but I was hoping for some feature of Touch ID to come back.
I am using an old model of iPhone but I also want for Touch ID to come back...

I am using an iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S10 Plus and between the two, even though the iPhone 7 Plus was released in 2016, its 2nd generation Touch ID [introduced in iPhone 6s] is way better and more responsive than the under the glass fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S10 Plus...

My iPhone unlocks almost instant even though I have barely touched the home button yet on Galaxy S10 Plus it takes me multiple tries with me placing my entire finger and with applied pressure but it still takes time to recognize my fingerprint... The S10 series is already the 3rd in the Galaxy series that uses the under display reader/scanner yet still gets beaten by a smartphone 3 years earlier... I am not using a screen protector on Galaxy S10 Plus...

A side mounted fingerprint reader would be okay although I am not sure if the under the glass fingerprint reader/scanner they plan to use in the future will be as effective as the Touch ID on iPhone SE 2022 and older...

Incidentally, what's the best HomeKit approved mesh in the market ?

I too, while reluctantly satisfied with my TP-Link mesh, would embrace an Apple system to soothe my privacy concerns.

The sad thing for me to admit is that all the iPhone 15 needs to be an instant buy for me is USB-C. It could literally be the same internals as the 14 Pro Max but with USB-C instead of Lightning and I will place my order ASAP. Give me USB-C and any other upgraded offering is just icing on the cake for me.

I don't even care. WiFi 6E is an F tier upgrade easy. Hardly makes any difference. I've tested it. It's like upgrading from the A12X iPad to the A12Z iPad, or the old HomePod to the new HomePod. And on a phone it's useless unless you really need MacRumors to load 0.1s faster for the $600 price of a pair of mesh routers.

I'm waiting for WiFi 7 and I'm not buying it right away. WiFi 6 routers were super buggy at first. I feel like all hardware has trash software at release anymore, because "agile."

To be honest I'd be far happier if the iPhone 15 were to adopt USB-C.
Me, too. However, despite the latest 7th generation iPad having USB-C, that greedy MBA suit Tim Cook limited it to USB 2.0 speeds—the same USB 2.0 speeds of the very first iPad that was released almost 13 years ago in 2010.

Apple has never been the first to adopt any new wireless technology. Remember the original iPhone launched with 2G and they were a laggard with LTE and 5G. Same with Wi-Fi.
I fixed it for you. Apple stopped innovating a long time ago. All it does now is taking old products with stale technology and it rebrands them adding +1 to the name and +€150 to the price. Oh and let’s not forget buggier software than the previous release.

No significance to me. I never understood the whole Wi-Fi generation stuff. I just type in the password and connect, that’s it āšŸ˜…
You are indeed correct, it is clear you don’t understand Wi-Fi generations. That doesn’t mean it isn’t important or useful to have a more modern protocol. They tend to improve stuff like speed, coverage, reliability. The sort of thing some of us care about. But sure, you keep being content with typing the password and hoping it’s correct. Then if the signal is too weak to do anything I’m sure it won’t be a problem for you.
