Interested to see what’s going to happen with the mute switch then. I hope it stays, to be honest. If you don’t want it for muting, at least let it become two shortcuts! Or one that turns something on/off. Always on display on/off, mute on/off, Wi-Fi on/off, etc.

That way the people who wanted it to go away and have a button are satisfied, and the people who were worried that the button would accidentally be pressed and have your sounds go off in a business meeting would be satisfied too because it can’t be triggered by accident.

This is the first I’m hearing about the switch going away. The current switch is fairly difficult to accidentally flip, especially if you use a case. Buttons, on the other hand, get accidentally pressed all the time. I’m hoping there will be some way to put the phone on mute and NOT have an accidental button press unmute it—please say there is.
If crash detection is anything to go by, Apple will have no clue how an action button on a phone works in real world. I won’t be surprised to see reports coming from folks who keeps pressing that button accidentally when they should not be or don’t want to.

Well of course this discussion never passed Senior designer. You here just give them a great Way to keep folks of both worlds happy. I just don’t believe literally none of those talented designers and engineers in Apple can’t even think about this possibility, unless Apple Is prohibiting this idea to be implemented Due to pressure from other departments.

It gon be hard for Apple to justify those price increases
Not really. Apple will just hit it with a special slogan, This changes everything. Again.

What about the low power chip that was supposed to control the solid state buttons when the battery was (almost) dead?
What about the new internal layout to make room for the additional taptic engines?
This will be an interesting teardown…also this proves nothing is really final until mass production…or that the rumors complex get delayed information based on previous development stages..

Thank you!!!. The mute switch is a non-negotiable for me. A “magic button” just don’t cut it for my usage. If it ain’t broken… call Apple…

1) WWDC AR/VR headset Gurman says yes, KuO delayed by 2 months or so
2) Solid state buttons Gurman yes, KUO no

If the solid state buttons are no longer a thing, there’s gotta be something else substantial enough design wise that’s going to differentiate the pros from the standard 15 models seeing as they will be getting dynamic island too this year.
