Though I’d argue Touch Bar was a nice toe-dip toward and all-screen base of a future MacBook. People freaked. And here we are. ☺️
Based on the sour reception of the Touchbar's butterfly keys and the surprise comeback of third party mechanical keyboards, it seems folks strongly prefer physical keys. It's doubtful that we'll ever see an all-screen base. Personally, I don't know what I'd do without the little nubs on the F and J keys. Whenever I try typing longform on my iPad, I feel like I've accidentally walked into a Samsung store... confused and frustrated ;)

Cook decided to save this feature for the iPhone 16 pro instead. USB-C is enough upgrade for the iPhone 15

I cackled at that! 🤣

this may sound weird and I’m definitely in the minority lol, but I was looking forward to the new buttons.

definitely not a necessary change, but idk. I’m open to changes like this. just adds to the new things to experience on a device that has in a way reached its peak.

I’m good now. Might even upgrade with this news. However, the ‘action’ button use on iPhones is the wave of the future.

For those saying it was a pointless change making the buttons solid state, I suspect it was more about having additional taptics higher up in the phone, and the buttons/waterproofing were just a side bonus. The taptic engine is great but it clearly originates from the bottom of the phone (or one side if you hold it in landscape). Having additional ones gives you a lot more control of the effect (think a vibration that starts at the top and moves down, etc.)

The feature was always high risk, low reward. What's the selling point? The physical buttons are already water resistant. Haptic buttons mean additional Taptic Engines which consume internal space.
Definitely cost savings. I am glad they (reportedly) are going with what works and is dependable.

I commented here simply saying “phew” however that comment was deleted and I was warned by the moderators for my post being “frivolous”

I felt that my sentiment was succinct and self-explanatory, however allow me to elaborate just in case anybody is still confused by what I meant:

Phew, I am glad this is no longer happening.
They do that to me all the time. lol. Sometimes it doesn't take a lot of words to get your point across.

So we are looking at USB-C, camera update and a little faster processor, for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Anything else I might be missing?

Nothing is in a solid state at Apple anymore! The rumors are worse than TMZ and the National Enquirer.

Just more indication that their “supply chain checks” either are actually nonexistent OR entirely unreliable now. Unfortunately for them, they’ve GOT to continue posting random junk (even if based on nothing) in order to keep people paying to access their words :)

I would be into the 'action button' if it was context-sensitive and had strong taptics. Being programmed to switch between silent and ring while the screen closed, but turning into a two stage shutter button with the camera open could be fun. Sadly I suspect it won't be implemented that well, or may be a 'Pro' feature.

Agree. Typing an all-glass screen is certainly not at all ideal (I hate it on iPad.) Those nubs are important. 😁
But I did have a sneaking suspicion Apple was working toward an all-glass MacBook, regardless. Who knows? Maybe with some haptic feedback magic, those nubs could have been "replicated." No clue. But an all-glass MacBook seemed so Apple: one part amazing, one part wtf, one part forcing a whole new paradigm into the matrix - all parts Apple.

But that line of thinking may have been me fondly thinking back to a younger, hungrier Apple. Their motivation/need for taking risks is much different today than it was in the 90s/00s - for understandable reasons (wether I like them or not). Early 00s Apple would never have introduced something like Touch Bar and then walked away from it because people freaked (part of me quietly of misses that heavier-handed approach, warts and all). 😜

I agree with this for sure. I didn't like the Touchbar or the butterfly keys, but older Apple would have stuck by them and worked towards making them a better product. Tim just halfheartedly introduced the feature and never really spoke on it again.

Well, it is in the forum rules, literally the first item they say "not to do":

1. Useless and one-word posts. Do not bother making posts with only one or two words (e.g., "cool" or LOL) or a smilie, or post simply to have the first reply in a thread. Such posts waste everyone's time and will be deleted. Posts saying "I agree", "+1", "this", "me too", or the equivalent are also routinely removed, so don't post them. If you aren't interested in a thread, skip the thread; don't post to tell us you aren't interested. If you celebrate making the first post in a news thread, your post will be deleted.

The idea is, if all you want to do is express "I like this" or "I don't like this" without elaboration, then use the reaction buttons to the OP instead. Not all forums have such a rule, though, so I can see why it might catch people off guard (if they didn't read the rules they were agreeing to).

Totally.

Managing and (somehow) growing a mature, trillion dollar company is way different than building and growing an immature company. For the latter, risk is strategy - it's all about taking chances, shaking it up, warts and all because you can afford a few warts. In this earlier years, warts are badges of honor. It can be a pretty fun space in which to play. For the former, moves are way more measured, calculated, group-tested, etc. Can be a much less fun space in which to play. Each requires very different leaders. Steve was built to build and grow an exciting new company. Tim is built to maintain and grow and established company. Neither could have successfully led the other's eras.

You forgot Titanium exterior 📱 and 6x zoom periscope camera 📷
The periscope camera won’t be available to people interested in the smaller 15 Pro and who knows, maybe the titanium exterior/frame will be next to be “delayed” until the 16 Pro. There may be issues with applying colors to the titanium frame?

These rumors are getting a bit ridiculous. Is everyone just trying to beat everyone else to the punch and not doing any kind of "fact" checking anymore? Or is Apple spreading a lot more misinformation to find leakers in the company and supply chain?
