While I’ve designed some systems, a cellular phone is a complex bit of infrastructure and requires a lot of pieces to be done correctly.

If the product lifecycle is as far ahead as it might be, we might be seeing the short comings of covid hitting now.

That or someone didn’t consult someone or the testing scope was quite limited.

As an iPhone 15 Pro max user thus far I’ve only had it run hot once and that’s while it was transferring data from my 12 and downloading apps and syncing to my Apple Watch at the same time. That kind of load I’d think it would run warm at least. Other than that it’s been cool.

Go with iPhone 15 Plus for the color and the longer battery life with less heating issue compared to the 15 Pro/Pro Max...

My iPhone 14 Pro Max is still good for my use case... 5x is a nice to have but 3x still works for me...

I did notice my 15 Pro Max gets warmer than my old iPhone mini did. I'll say it again, I love this phone but I'm also glad I got AppleCare on it!
How much warmer? That's a giant jump in size... Is the 15PM worth it in your case? I'm considering a Plus vs the Pro Max.

Don't exaggerate. It's really not that hot.

Yup “iPhone needs to cool down” just syncing the day’s iCloud Photos while on the exact same MagSafe charger on my nightstand is now a regular thing on the 15PM, never was with the 14PM.

“Charging On Hold” for the same reasons.

And, it’s fall and temps are easily 10-15 degrees cooler and my home windows are still open.

The Titanium has provided literally zero benefit for me and is pure vanity IMO with big downsides on thermal and durability of the finish and drop performance (big deal, some fraction of an ounce was removed….”I wish my iPhone was 0.4 oz lighter” is never something I ever said, but I have frequently said “man, I wish this thing wouldn’t throttle so easily”).

Is it actually hot or are people just talking about heat from indexing/new phone stuff? I know that some testing of AAA console games sideloaded onto the device also made headlines about heat but I can't imagine that is indicative of actual day to day use. My 14 Pro and 13 Pro were "hot" for the first week or so too.

I am not seeing this on my 15 PM, I also charge on MagSafe now using the ESR 3 in 1 and the little puck has fan for when charging used with 14 PM also other than the usual 24 hour plus indexing not seeing it like some are so I am happy with my purchase
