Are people being reasonable with their expectations, it’s a $399 iphone. Less expensive than the 8, and according to rumors a bump from A11/2GB to A13/3GB.

That’s all I would expect, anything else is gravy don’t you think?

What's with the reasonable expectations? Don't you realize where you are?

Yes, anything else is a bonus.

In focus on the American market I would expect the same.
The world market, on the other hand, seems to be more complex.

After all, Apple also wants to consolidate its still shaky market position in India and China.
There the folks cannot afford an iPhone every 3 years, although they know that the iOS works well and also serves older iPhones well.

For example, if Apple wants to use the small iPhone as a repeater for its glasses and vigorously develop the market associated with it, then cheap iPhones equipped with the best technology should be able to represent this and other plans of Apple in these countries for the next 6 years.

Although such devices would bring little profit in the short term, they would probably make a decisive contribution to Apple's strategic development for the next 10 years.

If China's nationalist ambition 'develops' its own good operating system, this market would be dead. Apple must therefore act quickly to make China's efforts of this kind pointless.

It will undoubtedly have an updated camera. Probably the wide angle camera from the 11, with XR type portrait mode and support for night mode.
I imagine you a right. Of course they will be using parts from other phones to keep costs down but I imagine the 8 is at the end of its life and they will use parts from what will replace it: 9?

You are wrong! If this is the same format as iPhone 8 I will get it straight away. iPhone 11 is just too big for me and there are other things that steer me away from that phone. So yeah, if this turns out to be as rumoured then I can't wait to get it. I think it will be very popular phone for many reasons.

Iphone sh*te more like .
Small phones are pointless

I'm not sure about this price might be attractive but buying an iphone with no 5g nowadays....

On the other side only God knows when 5G will be implemented in my country.

What would be the opposite of Pro?

iPhone Unpro?
iPhone Amateur?
iPhone Con?

Considering most people who would look at this phone are coming from other 4.7" phones such as the 6/6s/7 the single lens camera from the 8 or XR would still be an improvement.

I'm not taking anything for granted and this is somewhat odd considering 50,000,000 (50 million) people are in quarantine by order of the ChiComs.

The numbers are being "adjusted" and jumping higher. I don't think this coranavirus is under control.

The iPhone 8 is no where near the end of its life. It’s only 2 and half years old, same as iPhone X. My sister still uses my old iPhone 6s and she’s quite content.

For someone who wants a smaller device for calling, texting, FaceTime, gps mainly the iPhone 9 should be welcome news. While I’m personally waiting for the 5.4 device or 11 pro once the 12's come out, I can see the appeal. It’s not always about price. Let’s all try to think outside our own bubbles please.

The iPhone 9 camera will likely be the same as the iPhone XR or higher. Apple's line up for 2020 will be quite impressive, with something for everyone. The $399 model for a capable, but inexpensive iPhone, the 5.4 inch model for those wanting a smaller form factor, and the 6.7 inch for the folks wanting a maxed out phone with a very large display. My guess is it will be something like this, with all other phones retired:

$399 iPhone 9 3GB RAM, 64GB, A13, TouchID, LCD, LTE, single camera
$499 iPhone XR 3GB RAM, 64GB, A12, FaceID, LCD, LTE, single camera
$599 iPhone 11 4GB RAM, 64GB, A13, FaceID, LCD, LTE, dual cameras
$699 iPhone 12 5.4 inch, 4GB RAM, 64GB, A14, FaceID, OLED, 5G, dual cameras
$799 iPhone 12 6.1 inch, 4GB RAM, 64GB, A14, FaceID, OLED, 5G, dual cameras
$999 iPhone 12 Pro 6.1 inch, 6GB RAM, 128GB, A14, FaceID, OLED, 5G, triple ToF cameras
$1099 iPhone 12 Pro 6.7 inch, 6GB RAM, 128GB, A14, FaceID, OLED, 5G, triple ToF cameras

Reasonable expectations are two words that will never go together in a MacRumors hardware forum thread, especially the Mac Pro/XDR Displays, iPhone SE 2 and iPad Pro forum posts.

SE won’t have 64GB base, XR discontinued, SE won’t have OIS, 128GB not a given for Pros but 6GB probable.

I don't if it's the fact that I used the iPhone 6 form factor for so long that I'm just utterly bored to death of it (it drove me to switch to Android and I'm still there), but I really hope the rumoured iPhone SE2 isn't that same design. I quite like the original SE (iPhone 5s) design - and enlarging the screen in that same form factor would be fantastic - but the iPhone 6 design just kills it for me.

I suspect it will basically be an 8, but with a cheaper to make LCD panel (no 3D Touch layer), new motherboard (same A13 and modem from the 11, but probably less RAM) and an upgraded single rear camera (wide angle camera from 11 is most likely, but the camera from the XR is also a possibility).

One wonders how long it will be before people get cancelled over using the term "Wuhan Coronavirus" or "Wuflu". Both seem to have become much more entrenched than the awkward WHO nomenclature.

Well, it's not the flu. But Wuhan Coronavirus is a MUCH better name than COVID, because Covid is a cable company. http://www.covid.com/

I'm hearing "it doesn't fit my needs therefore nobody will want it". Surprise - there are literally billions of other people on the planet, and the majority of them have use cases which are not exactly the same as yours.

Yeah, small phones are definitely not pointless. I mean, I've just upgraded to a 6s+, which is THE best iPhone Apple ever built, with a reasonably big screen, real home button, and headphone jack, but I know lots of people who really want a small phone with the FaceID silliness.

What Apple really needs to do is stop connecting size with feature level. Most people who want a small phone want it for the size, and would absolutely pay more for a small phone with top-end features. I know people who think the iPhone 5 is too big, they'd love to have the iPhone 3 form factor back, but they want the good cameras and they'd be happy to pay for it. I also know people who'd love to have a big cheap iPhone with a basic camera and would be fine with a slower processor.

Bigger doesn't need to correlate with better.
