It smells the "Iphone 12 PRO" will be the normal quality phone with good camera, sensors and lenses (as normal) and the "Iphone 12" will be a piece of s.
 This is what i think only, no kuoduo behind this.

As a travel photographer who finds myself using the iphone pro more & more while traveling...word of camera improvements in the next iphone always get me excited.
For this reason i love my iphone 7.

Image Sensors come primarily from Sony, & both Apple & Google use the same ones, so that they benefit from Economics of Scale !

Has nothing to do with Largan !

Unless some other current phone has flat edges a space gray version was definitely in one of the WWDC videos. I forget which one but you can see it on the desk of the guy talking.

I doubt that's the case, because it would be all over the internet if it was leaked in a video there.

Periscope zooms, which were on some compact cameras decades ago, allow zooming without depth. They are already on a couple of phones.
Thanks -- I had forgotten about periscope zooms, and I just refreshed myself with a MacRumors article from earlier this year talking about Apple's patent on such a system. The periscope modules used in other earlier phones were rather bulky, so I assume Apple is waiting until they can be made thin enough.

But doesn’t the article speak of the lenses rather than the sensors?

Looks like it is time to get over the notch and get a new camera, er phone. Whom am I kidding? I will never get over the notch.

Let's hope for fluorite lenses.

Lot's of confusions to what makes mobile camera acceptable. All elements such as sensor size, sensor type (pixel binning), sensor resolution, pixel size, read out speed, lens coating, lens optics, color science, type of AF, post processing they all play equally important role to what mobile camera can do. And if money was no concern many manufacturers could make a killer camera stacks inside Max like footprint to rival the lowend DSLRs. But the point is people don't want DSLR they want point and shoot. They want their poison green grass and super saturated cyan sky with HDR clouds and vignetting. They are OK with HDR flat contrast at mids as long as there are no dark or hotspot areas in the image. They want all of the opposite to how photography works. Nightmode is the perfect example of something with such a wow factor that ends up being useless unless exclusively viewed on Instagram or FB post.

I have an iPhone 7S and most of the pix I take come out very nice. However, if someone is really demanding super high quality pix, why blow $1000+ on an iPhone when you can get a $800+ DSLR which is orders of magnitude better? We have a 5 year old $700 DSLR and the pix are stunning. I'm actually thinking of getting a Canon later this year.

For me, the iPhone is fantastic for getting the pic immediately off the phone such as a text message or email. I wish more DSLRs could figure out a way (easily) to integrate with an iPhone using Bluetooth or WIFI so I could take a few pix, dump them to my iPhone in under 60 seconds, and then use the iPhone to text them to friends. If someone knows of a brand/model that currently does this, I'd love to hear the info!

I dunno it looks flat to me (from this video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10041/) :

So, are we buying a camera or a phone.

I find this whole camera thing interesting. I would love to go back in time to when somebody one day said: " Hey lets add a camera to these phones - that would be cool". I am sure many thought it was either stupid, or technically a joke.

Though the camera is great - it has ruined live concerts.
RUINED.

Go figure.

I’m going to have to disagree with the live concert thing. Cameras have certainly replaced lighters on concerts and some folks are stupid enough to film the show rather than enjoy the experience- but I’ve visited plenty concerts in the recent years and had a great time.

Smartphones are the most used computers for most people today so it should come as no surprise that folks will use their cameras as well. They’re simple and convenient and readily available everywhere.

Smartphones are 99% a computer and 1% a phone. For many, it’s their only computer.

What’s a computer?

Lots of people don't go to live concerts, and honestly the concerts that are ruined by people holding up cameras usually aren't very good. How many people would rather have a good camera on that at all times vs having an "iPhone free concert"...like 99.9%

What’s a computer?

For even more, it's their only camera.

Low end camera for the iphone, huh? Mac much, Apple?
I surely hope a new camera makes it into the new Apple Silicon Mac.

Because as the saying goes “the best camera is the one you have with you”. Not everyone feels the need to “blow” a big chunk of change on a bulky heavy camera that doesn’t fit in their pocket and do a million other useful things, not to mention take photos that can look amazing. Most iPhone users don’t see the need for photos that are “orders of magnitude better”.

I think at this point it's just a label, the rights to which were purchased under an agreement.

No. New Xperia 1 II is the first and only phone that has Zeiss glass with T* coat. Will that eliminated light leak and streaks, I don't know. But I doubt Zeiss would sell them rights to put T* label on the back of the camera without actual coating on it.

Digital zoom is usually just a crop of the image. I’d rather keep the wide angle forever.

I would like a 50-ish megapixel sensor that pixel bins for most images, but less so, or not at all, for zoomed in images. I think this is what the Samsung is doing, but with a crazy-high megapixel camera. The results are way better than digital zoom on a low megapixel sensor. Especially in daylight.

I'd be really disappointed if Apple goes back to the smaller phones having a hardware disadvantage from the larger models again.

I prefer smaller phones but still want the best camera possible.

This is what I am hoping for, even if the non-pro is "only" a 24MP sensor and the pro a 36/48MP. Some of the older rumours mentioned higher megapixel sensors.

I use the x2 zoom on my iPhone X a lot. So it would be a shame to miss it. It's great for those times where you can't simply "walk forward".
