If that happens I am not going to buy it. Touchscreen laptops are fingerprint magnets and extremely useless.

Maybe if they made a Mac with a detachable keyboard (and swift MacOS UI <-> iPadOS UI switching) I'd say yes. But as a laptop? No.

There’s nothing innovative here. Windows laptops have offered OLED and touch screens (even with stylus support) for years.

In fact, I own one myself — the HP Spectre.

With a touch screen, you don’t need to use touch controls all the time. But when necessary, they come in handy — for example, navigating maps feels much more intuitive, and some games(e.g., plants and zombies, etc) work better with touch input.

In addition, certain apps that feel rather pointless on the Mac, such as GoodNotes, could actually become useful with touch functionality.

I can count on one hand the times I tried and touch the screen in the last year, usually after using my iPad, having said that, those few times were really frustrating and the ability to click a button or enlarge something by touch will be an improvement. Looks like I'll wait October 2026 to replace my M1 Max.

I've used touch screen Windows laptops for work and honestly, I never remembered they had it so I never used it. Muscle memory for me with laptops is keyboard/trackpad.
Maybe newer generations will adapt to it. Me as 40 probably not. I had thinkpads with touch screen and stylus and never really used it. I really tried but it just makes no sense on Windows neither on Mac, there is a chance it will be better executed on Mac but people who used mouse / keyboard entire live will not switch. My wife on the other hand can not stop touching my Mac screen 🤬

But in this case, Apple doesn’t even need to develop a new product. They already have one — the iPad Pro. In fact, if Apple simply gave users the option to install macOS on the iPad Pro (at their own choice), then boom — you’d essentially have an OLED-screen MacBook.

Apple Pencil support would be even more useful than simple touch support, especially if they incorporated a 180 or 360 degree hinge. I doubt Apple would cannibalize the iPad Pro by that much though.

But this is a MacBook Pro. The iPad Pro's chassis, relatively small battery, and passive cooling could never support a Pro or Max chip.

I've had at least half a dozen people instinctively reach down and touch something on my Macbook screen, only to be shocked when I tell them it isn't a touchscreen. Everything is a touchscreen. "Aren't these things like $2000? It's not a touchscreen?"

I just want 256 GB memory options and the 40% improved AI calculation with the changes on the GPU, as they did with the new A cpu's.
Already exists. You can buy a Mac Sudio today

I see a lot of people use it for scrolling in my windows only office.

Touchpad to point and click, screen to scroll. 🤷‍♀️
When I had a touch laptop for work, I only ever used touch to scroll, and that was only when I was away from a scroll wheel mouse.

It must not have been popular, because the next wave of replacements did not have touch screens.

This could explain some of the atrocious design choices in macOS Tahoe, such as the huge curved window corners.

I don't really care from a technical standpoint if the Macbook gets a touch screen, as any user can simply ignore this feature and never use it if they don't want to.

That's not the point. The problem is, knowing Apple, this will be used for an unprecedented price hike.

Favorite compute experience is a Thinkpad Yoga running Ubuntu. So useful and natural. If Apple does this I hope they support the Yoga-like hinge. HTH, NSC
