Doubtful if iMac would get a new body in 2021.

Apple wants you to be focused on the Apple Silicon chip and not the new body.

Separating the redesigned body with the change of chip allows for better marketing for 2021 and 2022 or later Macs.

From November to June 2021 - Apple Chips

From 2H 2021-onwards - redesigned bodies
A new design would only further increase interest in next year’s Apple silicon iMacs, imo. I doubt Apple would would consider a redesign to be a negative with respect to marketing.

If I were iMac product manager, I would definitely want new Apple silicon Macs to be wrapped in new metal, anyway.

They could already introduce a lower end 24” iMac with the M1 at any time, and obviously that would be a new design.

I hope They FINALLY include a touch screen?
Lazy APPLE. No touch screen when Surface by Microsoft has had it for years
Whats a iPad Pro M1 aka MacBook M1 without a touch screen?
wanna run iPad and iPhone apps on your Mac ? You need a touch screen!

What is everyone’s obsession with a touch screen mac? Leaning over your keyboard to touch the screen which then wobbles is a terrible experience. Apple are right in this one.

Putting Macos on an iPad is a better option.

I really hope for good redesign. Obviously they want to fill the price gap Intel left with more substantial offering for the same money. Overpriced, as well. :)

Is there any chance we will get 14 inch macbook pro alongside the 13inch?

With a faster CPU/GPU that will replace the current 4 port Intel 13inch macbook pro?

They keep telling us they won’t, but some refuse to believe what Apple tells them. Same thing with those claiming iOS and MacOS will eventually merge 🤷‍♂️
already consider merge since apps in iOS can be run in macOS. Sorry can't test it waiting few days for shop appear. Previously i don't deploy to universal for app store. The main problem was how long apple want to remove the intel ? apple tv -arm , iphone, ipad - arm.

It probably depends on how well the Air and the 13" sell. And how far along Srouji is with developing the rest of the lineup. And how quick 3rd party vendors jump on the Apple Silicon bandwagon.

It's a shame that the stores are closed.
Even those that are "open" aren't really open in the pre-COVID sense. At least not here.

I really hope they don't.

The ergonomics would be a nightmare at a desktop, and awkward on a laptop, and Apple already have superior touch screen devices in the iPad line. (You want touch and power, get the iPad Air - at the moment.)

It doesn't make sense to sell a 14-Inch Pro along the 13-Inch Pro. Apple will discontinue the 13.3-inch MBP just like the 15.4-inch MBP when Apple replaced it with a 16-Inch MacBook Pro.

I have had touch screens on Toughbooks and Thinkpads since the Noughties, and while I do not consider it essential, there are situations where it is useful.
I do not quite get the aversion to having it as an option. There is no need to use it - presumably Apple would not remove trackpad/mouse support.

The PERFECT Mac IMO is a 13' no bezels with the M1 crazy performance and battery efficiency, in the 2015 1 pound 12' MacBook form factor

when apple relied on intel core-m processors that never happened, that was a dream a month ago but now that the M1 is out this is finally possible

Finally, something to look forward to! I also hope they make the stupid TouchBar an optional BTO component, and then we can see how many people really want it.
Knowing Apple, they’ll make the TouchBar STANDARD, then you’d have to pay to get one with keys! How many folks would pay an extra $400 for a row of keys? :D

This. It doesn't make any sense at all. I pray they never cave to the people mindlessly asking for touch-enabled laptop screens.
They didn’t cave to Final Cut Pro users, and there were way more of them!

"We've done tons of user testing on this… and it turns out it doesn't work. Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical. It gives great demo, but after a short period of time you start to fatigue, and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off."

yes, and Kuo also has some rumours about the 24" iMac...so big chances for at least 1 imac redesign in 2021..

Agreed. I have an iPhone 12 mini, an iPad and a MacBook (12). Best of the three worlds. This story of one device replaces them all is pointless for me when the three devices together weigh less than the 13" MBP and you have a double screen setup with Mac12 plus iPad when travelling.

Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar.... Please get rid of the touchbar....

At least make a BTO option without it...please!

I wanted to like the Touch Bar, and bought a 13" MacBook Pro (with 2 TB-ports) last year (to replace an ancient 11" MB Air), and expected to get used to it, maybe even find some use for it.

I did neither. The lack of a physical escape key (which they later remedied) was a hard pass, and I keep touching the bar inadvertently, turning music, or Siri or whatever on and off at the wrong time. Really annoying.

When I say keep touching, I should have said kept touching. I now got the new M1 Air, to replace the MBP. I'm not in the habit of replacing my Macs willy-nilly (the above mentioned Air lasted me from 2010 to 2019, as my main computer), but I literally have just paid money to get rid ot the touch bar.

“honorable way to backtrack from its touchbar adventure” 🤣

Why do people insist on casting Apple as having some fragile ego that must be handled delicately lol. When they give up on a technology, it’s done. Cancelled.

3D Touch might be the most recent example, maybe not. Didn’t gain enough traction, which likely had something to do with having a crappy UI/UX.

After 3 or 4 years they unceremoniously dumped it. No pathetic, insecure, self-centered, fragile, narcissistic ego that must be massaged and placated; just boom, done, gone.

As a US citizen, I must say I find that behavior quite refreshing.

I'd assume Apple has little interest in its ego. However, typicaly companies are interested in not pissing off their customers. Providing something new is a better way to keep existing customers happy than returning to the previous iteration.

someone should send a memo to Tim - don't forget to update the webcam.

With a redesign, they could go for a thicker lid on the laptops, and accommodate something like the front camera from the iPhone (maybe a generation or two back, to keep cost down, it would still be a better camera than the current one).

Knowing Apple, though, a thicker lid doesn't seem likely.

Imo no Touch Bar option at all or adding a row of function keys in addition to a Touch Bar are both terrible and won’t happen. I’m among those who like the Touch Bar as is. Ideally Apple would offer an option to choose a keyboard with physical keys instead of Touch Bar for those who prefer it.

These are the years that the Intel Macs used the PowerPC case design. Note that these Macs did not get a redesigned case the same year they moved to Intel
  • 2006 iMac
  • 2006-early 2008 Macbook Pro 15"
  • 2006-2009 Macbook
  • 2006-2009 Mac mini
  • 2006-2012 Mac Pro
I'm listing the year of each Intel Mac's last redesigned case that is still being used today.
  • 2010 Mac mini
  • 2012 iMac 21.5" & 27"
  • 2017 iMac Pro
  • 2018 Macbook 13"
  • 2018 Macbook Air
  • 2019 Macbook Pro 16"
  • 2019 Mac Pro
If you think about it... maybe the Mac mini should get a redesign before the iMac. It's been the same design for over a decade.

I'm sure a refreshed body will be out late 2021 or 2022.

On the contrary, Apple is ALL about lovingly stroking its ego. It took them years to admit and roll back the disastrous butterfly keyboard. They still stick to the half-arsed Touch Bar gimmick as if it matters to anyone other than a handful of people who mod it with BetterTouchTool. They're selling 4-year old laptop and 10-year old desktop designs and call them cutting edge.

The difference being, in 2020 Apple can afford 10 times more than what it did in 2006.
