Unbranded, but this looks like it might be the same monitor?

It sounds like this Kuycon might be glossy? Between that and the stand options (fixed, adjustable height, rotation capable, and VESA mounts), the Kuycon might actually win out over the Samsung, on paper, in my opinion.

And the price - $779 with the standard stand - that's less than half the cost of an Apple Studio Display... and not significantly more than the $500+ most people have invested in their DIY 5K iMac adaptations... for arguably a nicer looking package and without any fiddling. 🤷‍♂️
Glossy coating would be a absolute 1+ :)
And of course that this "Noname" 5K Display can be used with TB and (!) DiplayPort.

Probably, as Kuycon is said to have a 32" 4K and 27" 5K option.

I just got the 5k version today. It’s a glass panel, they say it’s an LG panel. Colors look great to an untrained eye since. I don’t have anything to really compare it to other than my m2 air. The stand I have can go up/down and swivel to 90 deg. I’m no expert, but if you guys have questions let me know. I’ll try my best.

How’s the build quality? How would you compare it to the mb air screen? Did you get the “hole” version, if so was it worth it?

Is that 5k on a 27" panel, or... is it 5k on a 32" panel?

I've been waiting for 5k on 32", but it seems no one has produced a display with such specs.

5K 27" panel. i spoke to their customer service on Taobao, and they don't know of a 32" 5K in the pipeline, they kept suggesting to me the 34" 5K nanoIPS but it would look weird for my setup. I almost pulled the trigger on the 32" 4K screen but the nits aren't that high at 450 and a 1100:1 contrast. The 5K goes to 580 nits and 1200:1 contrast.

Coming from 32" 2K screen, the 27" was pretty quick to get used to, i mostly just do office work and i like having windows side by side, and its a joy so far at the default hidpi. i'm still going between "more space" and default to see what i prefer, but both are super crisp.

How do you like it after a few months? I recently spotted a seller on eBay who was selling the Kuycon VESA mount stand only, and asked him if he had an opinion on the monitor. He was not enthused.

“Not recommend unless you are super into the aluminum look. Everything else like color accuracy, temperature, response time is bad.”

I don’t know much about color accuracy and temperature to be honest but it matches darn close to my M2 air screen and iPad Pro. I mostly do office work and review photo edits.

Response times when waking up isn’t too bad 1-2 seconds after my laptop screen turns on

Did you buy the model with holes on the back, or without? Also, is there any coil whine from your monitor?

Yea I got the one with holes on the back, although it’s up against a wall I don’t get to see it. No coil whine or noises coming from my unit. It’s completely silent and doesn’t feel very warm to the touch even after a full work day. Similar to the bottom of my m2 air by the monitor hinge.

Thanks for the reply! Do you have any pictures close up of the holes? I'm curious what's actually there. Is it just a cutout and opaque black plastic underneath? Or are there small holes/perforations on the black sheet underneath the holes that lets air through?

There

There are perforations. Here’s a pic below

Is the vented version recommended vs the solid panel? Perhaps it can help with electronic component longevityy?

For what it's worth, Kuycon is a legit brand owned by Guangzhou Guankai Electronic Technology Co., LTD – which is a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. I say "brand" because Kuycon is simply the division that sells monitors. All the other sites like ClikClak are just resellers.

Here is their website if you want to see their other monitors. This display IS an LG Ultrafine 27" 5k panel in a proprietary case with proprietary circuit boards, etc. As well all know, the LG 5k panel is what Apple uses in their displays and the older 27" iMac. So essentially, panel quality isn't an issue.

The price for the version with the holes in the back (which do little-to-nothing for you beyond aesthetics to look more like an Apple XDR and add $50 to the cost) and the height-adjustable stand (which is a $99 option) comes to $1,148.

If I were in the market for a display, I would definitely get this display over the similarly-spec'd Samsung model. The only questionable thing is customer service... I expect that unless you live in China, there will be virtually none.

Why is their price $300- more than Clickclack, this is just a US reseller?

I have no idea, I don't work for them. Kuycon is the manufacturer. ClickClack is just a reseller of other company's white label goods. There are a bunch of companies that do this... like Amazon and Costco, for instance.

They aren't paying for the marketing, get a volume discount, and typically cut into the profit margin a bit with the hope of making it up in volume - so they can charge a little less.

I'm also super interested about this monitor, it would be great to have more feedbacks from people using it since some months

It’s been about 3 months now and it works the same as it did on day 1 with no issues.

The usb c ports in the back are not fast for data transfer, but good enough for peripherals or charging your phone

Copying below a super helpful review & comparison someone posted on the reddit forum about this monitor. I might need to replace my LG 5K with this now that we have some more reviews out there...

I am based in Hong Kong and just purchased one last week directly from Kuycon's shop at Taobao (China's Amazon you could say). Paid 4576 CNY (636 USD) including delivery for the version with the vent holes on the back and with a vesa mount.

Until I purchased this monitor I have used an LG Ultrafine 5K. The panel itself is the same thing, but the Kuycon offers a higher peak brightness, and a much more premium look at feel, compared to the plastic box my LG is. The colors feel more and less identical to my LG.

The overall build quality feels great and I really have no complaints so far in this regard. The only thing I am missing is a built in web cam, but it's not a biggie really.

The reason why this product is not sold by retailers based in Europe or North America is quite obvious due to the design language, which is a pity (they could have got around this if they just alternated the back casing a little bit), because it really is a great value monitor which I would recommend to anyone who considered it.

A 1 year warranty on the panel and a 3 year warranty on the motherboard came with the monitor, and I was actually offered an additional 3 year panel warranty (China only) for another 60 USD, but I skipped it.

I've had some more time with the display now and have my LG Ultrafine 5K placed next to it. I have done some comparisons and have to say that the Kuycon panel just feels like an obvious step up from the LG – brighter and somewhat even more natural colours. The whites on the LG appear slightly colder and the peak brightness is noticeably lower. I have to say I am really happy with this purchase and would recommend anyone who is considering, as long as you are able to get some kind of warranty and support if needed. Considering the price, this is a steal compared to similar 5K monitors on the market. I have never worked on an Apple Studio Display, nor have I seen it next to this one, so I can't compare it with that unfortunately.

Thanks for the review, which stand did you get and how does it feel? Had I been aware of this monitor at the time I purchase my ASD I would have definitely given it a hard looked. That's amazing price for a 5K monitor, I would have definitely gotten 2 of those instead of one ASD.

A psa is that they sell an xdr like stand but with a vesa mount so you can attach any monitor to it and get rotate and height I'm planning on adding an lg 32 oled to the stand

A shame they don't sell this in Europe.
I love my Studio Display — but my daughter needs a display that plays nice with both Mac and PC.
