If you are having problems with it, you might be better off just buying Apple's US$9 USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter if you don't want to use the Mac's headphone port. It has a good quality DAC chip in it, and it is noticeably better quality than most that are built into monitors.

Yes I know about the adapter but just trying to use all the ports most efficiently. Thanks
