that's odd brightness works natively when you enable high dynamic range on my kuycon without the need of 3rd party apps like monitor control. Btw how do I get the iMac colour profile? I'm also using a TB5 cable from apple didn't need to change "the misc" usb-c rate etc for HDR to work... I'm confused.
Odd, where did you go to enable HDR? I see it in the gaming settings but only can set to auto.

have it on auto on the kuycon monitor menu gaming, HDR Mode to auto. then in your macOS System settings, displays, enable High Dynamic Range. That allowed me to control brightness on the keyboard without 3rd party software.

Hmm, macOS seems to work in a more complicated way than Windows. On Windows, I turn on HDR and in the Kuycon G32P menu I switch to “Gaming > HDRMode > Auto,” and that's it to get HDR.

However, I generally turn HDR off because it's too bright for me. SDR mode is enough for me.

I use it with my MBA M1 connected with my TB5 cable (MBA though does not have TB5 port) and get full resolution including HDR
it's very interesting piece of information. Could you please provide a screenshot from settings app where resolution, refresh rate and HDR toggle would be visible at the same time?

You are correct. I just removed monitor control app and the brightness still works. Initially I could not get it to work but I had JHDR off. When you open the Mac system settings and then display in that menu is a color profile line. Click on that and you should see a list of various profile settings. I found that the iMac gave me the best color matching my MBA. When I keep the USB-C rate at 40 then the option for HDR in my Mac display menu is gone. I'm using a Mac Mini M4 pro.

I must apologize. I had my MBA connected to my Studio Display and my Mac Mini M4 Pro to the Kuycon and got them mixed up when I made that statement.

I'm using kuycon(32inch 4k 144hz) with tb5 cable to my m4 mini pro, no 3rd party software, full reso and refresh rate. Couldn't see iMac colour profile though

I show nothing but 60 Hz. How do you get 144? I'm guessing my color profiles are left over from previous settings. In my case I have had iMacs, LG monitors and studio displays which probably populated the color profile menu selection.

You need to reduce the resolution!

If the user is referring to the 31.5" Kuycon G32P, it can also be operated at 4K with up to 120/144Hz. However, at 6K, only 60Hz is possible.

Is it true 144Hz though? Didn’t Kuycon themselves say that it was not supported and is perhaps a firmware anomaly?

Would someone mind going to the websites below with 4K 144Hz and sharing the results? Would be great to confirm one way or another.
Also, can the refresh rate go higher at 1440p or even 1080p, or is 144Hz the max for all resolutions lower than 6K?
And here:

If this monitor can cater to Windows gaming at 4K or 1440p at 144Hz or higher, while also having 6K on my Mac Studio, it is literally perfect to me.

Both tests on Kuycon G32P in 4K in 120Hz.

Yup it's showing true 144hz on my P32K. Don't forget to go into safari developer and turn off "prefer page rendering updates near 60fps"

Could you add the information in what resolution you gained the 144Hz? I could only activate this in 2560x1440, but i "only" use HDMI 2.1 with the Kuycon G32P. Maybe with USB4/TB4 or 5 (so 80 Gb/s) it is possible to use 144Hz with 4K or 120Hz with 5K?

See comment #811 above. The P32K is a 4K monitor. The question to ask is whether it can do faster than 144Hz in lower resolutions.

I'm on sonoma, and for some reason when I look at display report under system report, it notes it as an 8K monitor. Everything seems to be functioning correctly, but any idea why it may be reading it as such. In displays settings max resolution is 6144x3456 as expected.

And what connection do you use? TB4 or HDMI 2.0? With WQHD (2560x1440) I can use 144Hz, with 4K only 120Hz.
1440p at 144Hz is pretty awesome, thank you for testing! This would be great to game on in Windows.
Can I ask what exact cable you’re using to achieve this, and what computer?
Thanks again.

I am using a HDMI 2.1 cable. But I have no experience with Hz values of 120 or higher. I hardly ever play any games either. That's why I can't really judge how the 120/144Hz affects the gaming experience, which you might be familiar with from other monitors with similar Hz values. Isn't there some kind of standard like Gsync or Freesync that goes with it?

I think that is expected (on Sonoma, at least) when you have it set to that UI -- change the UI "looks like" setting to 3072x1728, for example, and you'll see the resolution in System Report change.

It's quirk of how macOS handles this. It renders that UI up 2x to 8K and then scales that down to 6K.

The same thing happens when you use a 4K monitor and set it to "looks like" 2560x1440. macOS renders that up 2x to 5K and then scales that down to 4K. The resolution in System Report is shown as 5K even though it is a 4K monitor. See this June 2023 comment on GitHub for an illustration of this (it's about the Dell 8K, but if you look carefully, you'll see a Dell 4K).

Has anyone tested the audio jack on the G32P? When I connect my external speakers I hear the audio but cannot make any adjustments up or down. No issue using the Mac headphone port.

If you are having problems with it, you might be better off just buying Apple's US$9 USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter if you don't want to use the Mac's headphone port. It has a good quality DAC chip in it, and it is noticeably better quality than most that are built into monitors.
