Lol, "unacceptable." How is that? You have to accept they don't have stock.

Maybe the OP was the person in this arstechnica article:

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/0...out-a-gold-one-tales-from-the-iphone-5s-line/

I am honestly appalled at the behavior of some customers on launch day. Would it really hurt people to wait a week or two for the configuration they really want?

If you blame anyone on the shortage of gold iPhones, blame us...Apple fans, Apple bloggers, the tech sites, etc. The level of laughter and ridicule when the gold phone was leaked was through the roof.

I agree, because i remember reading mass outrage everywhere on the Internet about the gold iPhone: "cheapening the brand", "Steve would never have approved this", "Tacky model for China" etc.

The fan sites were generally brutal towards the leaked gold 5S back photos. It's entirely possible that Apple leaked them intentionally in order to gauge interest.

i showed up at 745am all they had was space grey. I went with space grey even though i wanted white. it looks pretty badass. throwback to the original iphone.

I love the Space Gray. You're right. Reminds me of 1st gen.

I've had plenty of white iPhones. Been a couple of years since I had a black one. I'm enjoying it!

I waited since 3am at my local AT&T store for them to tell me at 7:30am that they only had space grey 5S's. My brother proceeded with a space grey but I did not. Drove to my local Apple store for them to tell me the same thing. There was a minimal line.

It makes absolutely no sense why they would release the 5S without supply to back it up. I knew we were in for trouble when they didn't have pre orders for 5S. Obvious that they couldn't make them fast enough.

I totally understand the tactic of limiting supply to create the illusion of demand but Apple has gone to far on this one. I am a very disappointed loyal apple customer.

Unacceptable? Amusing. It seems to me that the people who would camp or stand in lines for hours just to have an iPhone on release day are more likely than any other to accept it. I doubt that type of person will jump platforms merely over immediate availability of supply. They'll grumble and still buy it.

I would say 1 to 2 years is definitely more long term than standing in line for a meal at Shake Shack

----------

But you compared standing in line for a meal...

Yep. Still makes more sense than calling an iPhone a long term investment.

The point I was trying to make is that items we consume take time to assemble, whether it be a hamburger or an iPhone. They can only pre-assemble so many before it becomes a financial burden to do so. In the end you end up with lines and waits. I'm sure if Shake Shack wanted, they could pre-assemble a crap load of burgers so that there would be fewer lines. But for reasons of quality (different reasons obviously than Apple would have) they chose not to pre-assemble a crap load of burgers. Apple has their own reasons for the decisions they've made and not a single person in this forum is clued in on what they are.

Neither you or I work for Shake Shack or Apple. So any questioning or criticism we may have of how they choose to run their business is pure BS because neither of us is involved in the day to day operations, distribution, and finances of those companies. So I say to anyone who wants to complain and moan about Apple not having enough stock of a specific color, drop it since you don't know what the hell you're talking about. You are not informed enough to criticize Apple's business decisions. Unless you're in executive management of a similar company facing similar challenges, you have no room to speak.

Now, if Apple came out and fully explained their business decisions tomorrow (which I doubt will ever happen) then you could at least make an informed statement about those decisions. However, you will still lack the education and experience to make an educated statement about those decisions.

The fact that you can be number 1-10 and not get the iPhone YOU wanted is ridiculous plain and simple. Boca raton mall had 10 gold iphones and that store does serious business. If you can supply 30 iphones minimum in a certain color to every store in the launch country, then delay the color. Also they know they're short and didnt cut gold and silver to the limit of one per person. I think apple did this to cut into grey market price gouging on the iPhone. There so many space grays and if everyone's selling they dont sell as high/ people want different color.

I only wanted space gray btw , apple did gold the right way but I feel its a lil girly.

So perhaps the issue is that ATT didn't order the gold believing not that many folks would want it

Yep that's right, the carriers order what they want and are stuck with it if it doesn't sell.

I usually don't get caught up in the gotta be first hype, but I decided to go to my local Apple store at 8:30 this morning.

So a half hour after the store started selling phones and as much as two hours after they started handing out stock tickets.

Not a shock that didn't have what you wanted at that point.

Applause for getting over it and not having a tantrum.

Me, I have better things to do so when pickup in store starts I'll do that. Even if it takes a month. It's a phone, not a kidney

----------

I wonder if you'd order online using the "Apple Store" app and chose the 'pickup at your Apple Store' option, if the one you'd get from the store would be one the store just normally would have gotten.

Yes. Unless you are doing a custom config, engraving etc all serial products are from the standard shipment

What's funny about this whole thread and all the ones complaining about shortages is the fact that last week, lots of folks made fun of the ones who wanted the gold phone. Then some of those same folks made fun of the rumors that gold was going to be in short supply. Who's laughing now?

Many of us gold seekers woke up or stayed up till 3am and ordered our gold iphones. If you ordered within the first 20 minutes, you are going to be getting your gold next week. No waiting in line and no whining. I think our biggest debate right now is what cover to get that would both protect and show off the gold.

Every year I see the same threads. White in short supply, black in short supply, 32 gb in short supply, etc... The complaints about shortages are really funny to read given what we know about Apple and how they conduct their launches.

To those who are waiting for the Titanium iPhone 6 with 21mp camera and 128gb next year, here's a hint......pre-order or get up early and order online. :D

Lets face it: it sucks for most of us but apple is powerful enough to do it. I don't think their decision to launch in so many countries was such a good idea. But in the very end nothing will matter because people will buy their phones so there you go
